We seem to be surrounded by lots of sciencey sorts. Can anyone explain quantum physics to me? I have a friend who got 1st class honours in his physics degree, and is currently doing a PhD, but still doesn't get it!
And where's the geeky smiley when you need it?!Please call me 'Pickle'

Quantum physics is the physics of the very small. As things go onto a smaller scale, they become less like the everyday world and much more stranger.
It also diverges from the everyday world in that things can only be described by probabilities. Things are not in one state or another, but are only probably in one state as opposed to another.
It can be used to explain many things to do with dependence on size - like why people with small brains are more likely to be weird."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

I have to say I don't understand any of it either! I just have horrible flashbacks to 1st Year Physics at Uni where I didn't understand anything and only just scraped a pass - mainly so I'd never have to do it ever again! :rotfl: This looks like it may explain some of the basics without being too sleep inducing or loosing me in the 1st sentence! :rotfl:
