hypno as someone who rarely gets a 'proper' nights sleep, not your normal sort of insomniac though, I get to sleep fine, but wake up after 3 hours, and thats it, I was advised to turn the clock so I couldn't actually see it. Apparently your mind subconsciously looks at the clock and starts working it out - how long it is before you need to get up, how little sleep you've had, whether you'll be able to work on so little sleep, whether you'll fall asleep just before the alarm goes off etc.
Now, I just go with it, accept it as one of the things that happens.
For me its not helped that at the moment there is an age/hormonal thing going on too which means I also get palpitations in the middle of the night, but hey, it'll pass, these things do.
