It is irrelevant how much I pay, I would rather be able to relax in warm even livable temperature than sit in a cold detached bungalow with layers of clothing on.

I think that tells me everything I need to know about your knowliege of heating and saving money.

Sue, does that £38 actually cover your bills, are you in credit based on actual readings not estimates?

You can achieve the exact same comfort levels using a timer, and save money, so if you have a timer why not use it, instead of fiddling with the stat all the time?

Thanks for asking, as I said in an earlier post, I used to pay £56 per month for both gas and electriciity with Scottish Power last year and that covered both utilites adquuately, if anything, I was slightly in credit at the end of the year. Then I changed to SP's Online 7 and they said my monthly dd would reduce to £36 or £38 per month (I can't remember which). I assume they must have taken account of last year's usage so I am hoping this will be adequate unless we have a much colder winter than last year.

I only have to change the stat once in the morning and once before I go to bed, but I am thiniking of getting a programmable room stat put in when I have my boiler changned so I won't even need to do that.

On my tariff the standing charge is 10 quid a month so the other 9 quid qould buy about 4100Kwh of gas a year!

That is 25% of the average consumption you must only have the gas on for about an hour a day.

I dont have a standing charge?

I have the heating on 1 hour in the morning and about 4 or 5 hours in the evening. Off the rest of the time and off spring/summer/early autumn as its not required.

Do not make assumptions, my knowledge of heating is far more than you will ever know, though by all your posts in here you obviously think you know it all and will not even concede that you may possibly be wrong.

I will leave you to bask in your ignorance secure in the knowledge that I am sat in a nice warm bungalow with average bills rather than freezing to death for the sake of a few pounds.

It is common for utility companies to lure you in with a low initial DD, and then bump it up massively later, you really need to check meter readings and bills to do a comparison

    Absolutely!

Good grief, I can't believe how little people are paying for gas and electric. I pay £106 a month and thought that was average. I'm also in a 14 year old detached house, which is unoccupied most of the day when I'm at work (but I have 4 bedrooms).

I'm off to do some comparison on uswitch
    08 wins £3000+ :j09 wins £4408:j2010 (6 months off) £2004:j2011 £10,003 :j 2012 - £6013 :j2013 wins £8500 :j 2014 £5530 so far....

Well, I decided to change because the rates were much lower before they told be the dd amount, so I don't think that is the case.

Have you worked out the units you use X price per unit = amount you are paying though?

You made assumptions about my knowledge - but I suppose that was ok, because it was you. I am lovely and warm in my office and saving lots of money in the process. I just want to help other people realise that by putting on a few extra layers you can save an awful lot of money. The number of people I know who wear t-shirts at home in Deecember and have their heating turned up to 25 degrees is ridiculous

Well its up to the individual I suppose to how warm or cold their homes are, but im glad to say my heating is on at 21 during the day and if it feels a bit chilly of a night it go to about 23 . My heating is on 14 hours per day approx, husband disabled and sitting nearly all day. Gas central heating , Heating off at bedtime, Well insulated 3 bed detached bungalow with double glazing , 7 rads, 10 inch loft insulation, all gas heating , rangemaster in kitchen for cooking , , recently new combi boiler , gas hot water on demand my yearly bill for gas £424.67.

Yes we could turn our heating down to 16 degrees wear more clothing and sit miserable but why do that when our gas bills are so low and we are kept warm and happy.
