    Internal boiler

It was 3 years ago I did the test when I first joined MSE. Off the top of my head though it was about 60% less.

My DD for gas has gone from 30 a month to 19 since that.

Sue, what basis do you think 24/7 would be cheaper, what leads you to this theory? If the level of insulation is the same, and the conditions are the same, how can it be cheaper to run 24/7 than turn it off when not needed, why do we have thermostats and timers, why do you turn your thermostat down at night?

The cost of the gas used to get the boiler up to operating level. If this wasted gas is more than the heat lost from the house over a 24 hour period. This is the only way it can be cheaper to go 24/7. I think tat this will be rare for most people unless like me they have a boiler in a garage or an outhouse.

The real question I think is how much more expensive is 24/7 and I think the answer to this for most people is not a lot more, maybe 10%.

Try answering the question, if it is a comfortable temperature why do need all those layers of clothes, fan heaters and gas rings on?

Most people that use the central heating efficiently do not need all those extras which leads me to the conclusion that as others have said you do not know what you are talking about and you are completely missing the point of how to use your heating.

Sorry, I think I feel the cold more than most people, when I used to work in an office, I was usually colder that everyone else, so I think most people wouldn't need to wear the number of layers I do at 16 degrees

Not this old chestnut again. If you're not there, turn it off. You're just heating outside.

I think only paying £38 a month for both electiricity and gas combined for a 3 bedroomed detached house means I have some idea about heating and not wasting money. How much do you pay if you know so much?

Defeating your own argument here, you maintain it is a comfortable temperature then say you feel the cold, in that case do what any one else would do use your heating properly and turn the thermostat up to a higher setting then you will not feel as cold and you would not need all those layers.

It is irrelevant how much I pay, I would rather be able to relax in warm even livable temperature than sit in a cold detached bungalow with layers of clothing on.

On my tariff the standing charge is 10 quid a month so the other 9 quid qould buy about 4100Kwh of gas a year!

That is 25% of the average consumption you must only have the gas on for about an hour a day.

If I am happy to wear lots of layers why on earth would I want to turn the thermostat up and give money to Scottish Power? I only feel cold at 16 degrees if I am not wearing the layers I am happy to wear and I am not being active. In that case, as I said previoulsy, I boost the temperature of the room for a few minutes.
