Gas on constantly or on and off...?

Thanks a lot for the advice, however, I am not worried about the cost at all, if I was then I would do what you are doing. I would much rather keep the money in my bank account earning interest than give it to them, but if I was on a tight budget, then submitting weekly readings is a very good idea.
I've already given it to them as a monthly direct debit, I'm keeping track of whether I need to give them more or not. Before December our actual readings have been less than our £49 DD but we've had the heating on since I don't want to go massively over it and not know, it's nothing to do with being on a tight budget, its about saving money, right? It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0 -

Agreed, keeping track incase you need to give them more is a good idea, however, I am not worried about the cost, which is why I am not doing weekly readings.0 -
For those curious I have had no heating on while I sleep at all and have no frozen pipes.0

I just wanted to ask a question about the amount of gas you are using. I've been keeping an eye on the gas meter recently, but don't know if what I'm using is considered high!!
So how much do you all use in this cold weather??
I have a 5 yr old combi boiler in a 3 bed detached and use all the rooms. I too have no thermostat, I can control the temp that the boiler heats the water to, and I do have controls on my radiators.
Also I always turn off the heating at night, and it comes on again in the morning - should I be worried about freezing pipes? I live in a suburban area not the highlands of scotland.
Would appreciate any thoughts/comments
Thanks :j0 -
I wouldnt worry about freezing pipes we not in antarctica.0

Thanks Chrysalis.
I think I've been rading too much earlier in the thread about the laws of Thermodynamics!!!!

British Gas Predict your Bill? It's driving me crazy. The figures it throws at me bear absolutely no relation to what I'm using! I prefer 'I measure' to add up and work out the prediction myself.0 -
I had friends who left their boiler on low when they went away the week before Christmas and they came back to chunks of ice in their system and that was with it on!
My mother's insurance company insists that houses that are unoccupied for over 60 continuous days have their heating on continuously and the thermostat set to 15 degrees.0 -
you see I don't have a thermostat - so what would I do in that situation????
Still wondering about no. of units used - anyone0
