Barclays pre-approved offers

Options
Evening all,

I've recently opened a current account with Barclays; no fee standard account.

http://www.personal.barclays.co.uk/BRC1/jsp/brccontrol?site=pfs&task=homefreegroup&value=12828

At present I have no pre-approved offers, no surprise.

My question is: can anyone tell me how long it takes to build up a history with Barclays and to start generating these offers? The advisor suggested 4 months but this seems rather soon?

Also, if anyone has any advice on how best to run the account I'd appreciate it. Should I leave a minimum balance (e.g. £100) at all times, or does it not matter?

I've also opened an E-saver to put any extra ££; that won't affect the internal score, will it?

I'll have £1900 - £2000 going in every month as a salary payment, majority going back out as well!

Hope that makes some sense...

Cheers,

MF

  • My partner has held a barclays current account for 8 years (since her 18th birthday) or about 12 years alltogether, but the offers etc would only apply to over 18, and in that time hasnt had a single pre-approved offer even though the account has always been healthy, whereas my sisters partner opened one, was always empty and then a few months later got a pre-approved offer for a loan....
  • Cheers J,
Oh, to understand the inner workings of banks!

It depends on the crdit profile of the person, what accounts they hold and how they are run.

But the 'limits' start to appear after 3 months, but this is in no way certain! Things like Connect Cards, Loans and B'cards all appear at differing times.
These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!
  • Thanks Hippey,
I'm waiting for my Connect 50 card to come and I already hold a Barclaycard.
I'll hopefully start generating the OD/loan deals by the summer.

All your salary going out won't help because it will look like you don't have any surplus income...

I thought this would be relevant... Is there an amount that I should keep in there each month, or just as much as possible?

It shouldn't be too problematic building a small balance so I'll try to do that over the next few months.

Do you know if the balance should be kept in the current account or will the amounts in the linked E-saver be taken into consideration?

    Cheers,

As much as you can :) Not sure about the current account/savings account placement though :(

If I remember rightly the system sees money coming in and staying within your accounts under the same CIS number (are they listed in the same online banking log in??) the limits screen was based within the CIS profile so was based on all account holdings. Having all you money staying in your current account isn't a great idea and wont make limits appear quicker, however money leaving your account quick and constantly being overdrawn will not help.

  • Yes, all my accounts are the same login.

I won't be overdrawn at all, haven't been for years so that won't be an issue at the moment.

Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

    Evening all,

Still no pre-approved offers from Barclays, if anything my credit file is in a better place since account opening so monthly feeds from the Credit Agencies will be positive.

If I go into a branch will the staff be able to see anything different, or on phone banking?

    Cheers,

    MF
