That usually doesn't work (A+L and Coventry BS it doesn't) as the money doesn't count coming from an internal transfer from another account with the bank/society. If you live near a branch you can get round it by just withdrawing £X from the cashpoint outside then walking in and paying it back in though. The suggestion above MAY work on the Halifax account since I haven't seen the rules but I doubt they'd be that daft!

No need to withdraw cash in this case.

Money moved in by internal transfer(s) from another Halifax account, satisfies the minimum £1000 per month requirement.

Well, while Alliance & Leicester and Halifax are battling for current account customers, we need not worry about 'free' banking coming to an end!

Do you mean Halifax rates are going to improve, or that their customer service is crap...? Main thing for us is the night-deposit facility - the A&L near us doesn't have it, whereas Halifax seems to... My OH employers still pay him by cheque so he has to traipse down the bank after work every time he gets paid.

... their customer service is crap...

This has not been my experience, but they are an absolute byword for red-tape and, in the 10 years I've banked with them, I could cite numerous examples of this!
