Hotel Charge for stain on carpet

My daughter recently spent a night in the Etap Hotel in Manchester with a group of girlfriends, she booked the rooms in her name using her credit card. When she checked her statement a few weeks later she found out that they had charged her £50, when she rung them they said it was to cover a white bleach stain on the carpet which was in one of the rooms, my daughter asked the friends that had stayed in the room and they said it was there when they checked in. Can they do this?

Shoot me down if this is a daft question, but who would take a bleach like substance to a hotel room? There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0

id try and get a chargeback from your credit card company.
The problem i see is that your daughter cant prove it was there when they checked in, its a case of your word against theres, annoying but maybe the CC can do somethingEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

Makes you wonder how they could actually get a bleach stain out of a carpet and especially for only £500

Quite a few beauty products contain bleach. Clearasil for one. other product could also strip colour. I would be inclined to use the argument that the children would not take bleach to a hotel, however the maid service would, and that they should prove that it was not there before, and there before maid service.
I have a feeling the maid thing could swing it.Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -

That's probably the most likely cause, she could have got straight out of the shower and sat on the floor naked.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -

Immac burn isn't as harsh as bleach and could be redyed unlike a bleach stain .
Anybody seen my coat?Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -
I would advise your Daughter to go for a chargeback with her credit card provider.
Such fees from hotels are an age old scam that has been covered on programmes such as Watchdog over the years. As a rule if the problem was not addressed at the time of departure they have no right to try and charge you at a later date but do double check that your Daughter did not sign anything to agree to anything otherwise.0
