Hello,
I got my results yesterday and sadly i got a 2:"....the thing i am sad about though is not that i did not get the 2:1 i thought i would get, but the fact that i just assumed i would and did not look into any options open to me with a 2:2. I have not applied for any grad schemes yet but the few i had my eyes on were 2:1 entry requirements.....i didnt even look into those that accept 2:2's and what else i should/could do with a 2:2. My degree is Marketing with Tourism and its business type grad schemes i have been looking into......im not clueless what grad schemes takes 2:2 and what i should do.....any advice????
Thanks...

Don't be sorry that you did not get a 2:1. In my experience attitude, outside interests etc count just as much as your class of degree. After I graduated I went on to get a job which I absolutely loved, and not a soul asked me about my degree classification, which was a 2:1! Good luck!0

Pbright - DO NOT WORRY !!!!
I got a third and I at the age of 27 I was running the Uk Logistics Operation for a multinational company who are a large high street name. Even if you had got a 2.1, they would have taken the people who got a first, and even if you had got a first, they might have still turned you down. The graduate schemes turn you into a clone who has no method of thinking outside of the box.
Decide what you want to do and even if means starting at a low level, go for it. Once you have got your first job, prospective employees don't look at your degree any more. Otherwise I wouldn't be wear I am. You have a degree with Honours - put that down, not the grade0 -
I cant help on which uni's would except 2;2 but it could be worse.. you could have failed.......If i upset you don't stress, never forget that god aint finished with me yet.0

I'm sorry but thats just not true. There are a lot of benefits of grad schemes. A particularly good reason is that they know you have little or no experience and still take you on. The age old paradox of employment is always "I didn't get the job because of lack of experience, but how do I get experience without the job".
Pbright - dont worry about it mate, a lot of people don't understand how hard it is to get a degree so you've done well getting this far. Apply for jobs, and yeah you may have to start a bit lower on the ladder but if you've got drive you wont be there for long!
Good luck mate!I'm better off without you.0 -
I was 0.5% off a viva for a 2:1 when I got my degree a few years ago. Having a 'desmond' certainly hasn't harmed me in any way nor hindered me, and I don't even work in the same area that my degree's in (I have an English degree, but I work in IT).
I doubt I would be where I am today if it wasn't for the graduate scheme that I got onto - it was for a rather large multinational bank whose initials may indicate that they Have Shedloads [of] Banked Cash. Ahem
.
They accept 2:2s (or did when I joined in 2000), although it required a relocation for me to Sheffield (or London is the other choice).
Don't be disheartened - in 5 years' time it'll be like your GCSEs and A Levels are now - employers like to know that you have them (and in the case of GCSEs - just that you have 5 A-Cs), but they aren't worried about the actual results.
Good luck in finding something

Degree results don't mean everything! I work in HR and sit on assessment centre panels to recruit our grads and management trainees...and you know what, its not results that makes a good grad, its attitude, enthusiasm, manner, and general outlook! Despite whether you got a 1st or a 3rd, if you can't solve a problem or handle a difficult situation and show personal awareness in doing so, then chances are you won't get through an assessment centre. Focus on developing these competencies so that you are equipped to succeed!!!
Well done on completing your course and good luck with the choices you make next. xProud to be dealing with my debts!

Don't worry about it there are plenty of fantastic positions out there.
I got a 2:2 and now have a fantastic job working for a very large national lawfirm. (I did a law degree)
You could always put on your cv that you got 2nd class honours rather than 2:2 but whenever we recruit graduates we don't necessarily look just at the grades but at the overall picture of the candidate.
I am sure you will find something. Good luck

Thnaks! I do like the idea of grad schemes as i feel i need guidance. I am good at marketing myself in applications i feel, its just finding the grad schemes that except 2:2's...thats a good idea about just saying i got a second class honours! Thanks for the kind wors and advice......keep it coming, i really appreciate it.0

I got a 2:1 (many years ago now) and have never been asked about my degree at interview. Out of a group of uni friends with whom I have kept contact, the highest paid one now got the worse degree then.0

Unfortunately this whole thread is difficult to analyze, as repsonses are more likely to be "it didn't do me any harm" than "sorry, you'll be on the dole".
I got a 2:1 and was asked for my degree certificate before they would let me start - just to outline that personal anecdotes don't mean much.
I don't get the high paid thing as a measure of success either. I'd rather the low paid nurse treating me had a good knowledge of what she was doing, however I don't particularly give a !!!!!! what the non-important "successful" employees in law, investment banking etc got in their degrees.
If money is your thing then I have a friend who got a first in engineering who's now earning 75K 3 years after graduating. Also several with thirds who have had several burger bar jobs.0
