I didn't read all the comments here but this exact thing happened to me (but a dress) so what I did was looked at all my recent purchases and then went to all the sellers of them and looked at their history and I found the dress..so I emailed her and she was so grateful that I was honest...so I repacked it and sent to the proper address and alls good, seller refunded me the postage of course plus a wee bit for my time which I said she didn't have to.

If you're really interested in finding out who posted them and you've got half an hour to spare, you could always do a search of completed listings on ebay and try and find the listing ? :-)

I agee, chances are though its probably a seller thats already sold something to the OP.

it was good that you were honest but do you not think there is some data protection issues here, sellers giving out other users addresses??
Obviously not your fault you were the helpful one, but i dont think i would be pleased about my address being giving out to a stranger that im not actually dealing with via ebay myself

Sorry, I don't understand that? The seller never gave out someones address.

Back to the OP. This has happened to me (as the seller). For some reason a few months ago 10 of my transactions went back into 'awaiting despatch' from archived. I resent the items. Only when I had a couple of emails querying did I realise what had happened. I spoke with Ebay who in the end refunded me the cost of those I could prove I resent and explained it as a 'blip' in the archive system on SMP.

    she said

to me the seller gave that person the actually buyers address who then forwarded the mistaken item on to the proper buyer, therefore giving out someone elses details

Are private individuals subject to data protection rules?

Everyone is subject to them, whether you will get prosecuted is another matter.

Its like if you record people on your own CCTV system they have rights to see the data (video you hold).

As for the boxers i'd sell them on ebay if no one contacts you and put half in a charity box and keep the rest for your efforts.

    Win-win
