Reinstall windows. No need to bin it.
The exact contents of the bsod will give you a clue about the cause.!!

The blue screen contains error codes that can assist in identifying the cause of the crash. It'll be more helpful if you can post those here.0

stop:0x0000007B (0xF8895528,0xC0000034, 0x00000000 0x00000000)

Whats the rest of the message, the numbers don't help much, it's the driver names and text that will give you a clue.

Generally there are three things that cause it for the most part, a boot virus...conflicting hardware or device driver issues...
Did you do anything to your computer before switching it off for the last time, this could also include not closing down properly and just dragging the plug out?"Don't blink. Blink and you're dead. They are fast. Faster than you can believe. Don't turn your back. Don't look away. And don't blink. Good Luck" - The Doctor.0 -
a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
if this is the first itme you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. if this screen appears again, follow these steps.
check for viruses on your computer. remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. check that your hard drive is properly configured and terminated.run CHKDSK /f to check for hard drive coruption, and then restart your computer.

how can you scan hard drive if it wont load C:in safe mode (load safe mode and it stops after loading a few files ) i fear that this is a bit out of my comfort zone, checked for local repairs estimate £40 - £50 need to save data on computer. it has my self employed tax details for the 5 years, thought they were on my other computer,0 -
What these data recovery companies will usually do is simply tack your "broken" hard drive to their computer and simply pull your data off for you, it is often cheaper to simply get a brand new hard drive and do it yourself.
There was a fix I saw mentioned a couple of months or so ago and now for the life of me I cannot locate it, I will keep on looking around but I usually ask techie questions on computeractive.co.uk, have you tried there or majorgeeks.com?"Don't blink. Blink and you're dead. They are fast. Faster than you can believe. Don't turn your back. Don't look away. And don't blink. Good Luck" - The Doctor.0 -
Does safe mode with command prompt work, if so, you can do a chkdsk, if not, could you borrow an xp CD.
To get your data off, the easiest method is to buy a usb hard disk caddy, cheaper than paying for someone else's time in a shop.
Is the hard disk making any unusual noises?!!
