MBNA - Goodwill gesture, ha!

Hi folks
Having sent out various complaints to credit card companies (trying to get PPI payments back) on 31.10.09, I 'm slowly making progress.
I received a letter form MBNA today informing me of an immediate refund of premiums.
All sounded very promissing, until I read further.
I opened the account (and PPI) in Jan 2002 and have paid PPI up until May 08. The goodwill gesture is for £530.30.
My calculations (rough) result in this being nowhere near the sum i have paid out
So I was hoping that this amazing community of like minded people could help me out...
How far back can I claim?
and whats my next step?
Does this goodwill gesture mean that they're admitting liability?
I intend writing to them again, stating that i am not happy with their decision, requesting a refund of all payments for ?? period of time.
Do i add the "plus interest", i've seen elsewhere on here?
I'm guessing i need to ask them for their final decision?
At what point to i take this to FOS?
Sorry for all the questions, but as you can imagine, at this time of year every little will help a lot

Hello there.
Having sent out various complaints to credit card companies (trying to get PPI payments back) on 31.10.09, I 'm slowly making progress.
I received a letter form MBNA today informing me of an immediate refund of premiums.
All sounded very promissing, until I read further.

They have not actually accepted any liability then but a goodwill offer perhaps??
Did they send you a full detailed written breakdown, if not ask if they will post this out to you for your records.
So I was hoping that this amazing community of like minded people could help me out...
How far back can I claim? With one of mine that was resolved a few months back they went as far as 2001, if you still have all the paperwork and have all the details on how much you paid, you can of course try to reclaim since you taken this out.
and whats my next step?If your not happy and it was not the final response, then write back and ask them to reconsider paying you the full amount of what you have paid, tell them your not satisfied with the outcome from their letter dated XX/XX/XXXX and strongly believe you were mis sold, due to the reasons given on your first letter they received from you. Tell them because of this you have been out of pocket.
Ask that they either pay the full amount and interest or at least considering a more of a reaonable offer.
Does this goodwill gesture mean that they're admitting liability? As explained above (this does not always mean they are admitting liability).
I intend writing to them again, stating that i am not happy with their decision, requesting a refund of all payments for ?? period of time.
Do i add the "plus interest", i've seen elsewhere on here? Yes go for it, if your not happy and there is some difference, I would keep trying.
I'm guessing i need to ask them for their final decision?
At what point to i take this to FOS?
Keep at them until they give you the final decision, so in this case if this was not the final response, you are in the position to write to them again, they will send the details of the FOS with the finanl decision.
Sorry for all the questions, but as you can imagine, at this time of year every little will help a lot
, you have to ask to know, and that's what we are here for.
Wishing you luck, please keep us posted.:beer:The one and only "Dizzy Di"

Thanks ever so much for your top tips :T
I'm in the middle of putting together SAR requests for all of them so i have an exact figure of what i've paid etc.
As you suggested i'll send MBNA another not satisfied etc letter, asking for their final response and keep ya posted.
One more thing..
I have two different credit cards with MBNA and started the reclaiming PPI process seperately for both. I've had this goodwill gesture from one and a letter giving me the 30 days cancellation blah blah from the other. Suprised that i got a different response from both, as their both MBNA and the accounts must be linked somewhere?Successfully reclaimed PPI:

Your very welcome.;)
Baffled about their responses on the 2 different cards, you could write to them about this if you want to.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"

This sounds familiar!
I've had a cc with mbna since sep01 and sent the ppi letter off at the end of nov. I had a reply the middle of this month asking me to call them to discuss the matter further. During the call, the mbna rep said as a goodwill gesture they would refund the preimiums thus far and would confirm this in writing.
I got the letter yesterday saying just under £1200 was being refunded to my card (obviously a bit more specific than that!). I found some statements from 06 when looking for details of my accounts when writing the letters. On these statements I was paying on average £22 per month ppi and it's been around that figure since then. Based on this the offer they have made seems low to me.
I've called mbna today and requested they send me a written breakdown of what they are repaying and they are sending this out.
During the call it was mentioned that the refund included £30 intereset. I'mm keen to know where this figure comes from.
I was told that they'll send a final offer letter once i've received the refund breakdown.0 -
Sent letters off today, impressed that the little post office in the back end of Wales was open on new years eve.

Thanks for your imput :T
Yes it sounds very familiar.
I've also paid £20 average per month since 2002 (i think), so my goodwill offer doesn't come close either.
In my reply to MBNA i've also asked for a breakdown of any offer sent and a record of all premiums paid to date, and a final decision.
Avoided ringing them though, i figured if i send everything in writing rec del i've got a record of it

MBNA did the same thing to me when I complained to them about cc charges... They made me a very small offer .... Hold out for the full amount - these forums (is that the plural) are FULL of people in the same position and most often MBNA pay up in full eventually...:AIgnorance can be cured, but stupid is forever!:A

This is very encouraging news. I've spent hours trawling through threads that say the same sort of thing, thnx :TSuccessfully reclaimed PPI:

Right then, i've had final offers from both mbna cards.
One states that it includes interest of a random figure.
They are apparently sending out a copy of the breakdown of figures offered.
I'm not impressed with either of the goodwill gestures so off to the FOS....
Question?
Do i wait for the SAR, so i have actual facts and figures before going to FOS, or do i start FOS process and forward anything relevant as and when i receive SAR?
Thanks again for your help gang.:T

We have had 3 successful reclaims from MBNA and I asked for calculations to see if we agreed I have the info back for one of these which is:
PPC refund £1562.23
Contract interest £34.29
Interest refund seems low to me and no 8% stat interest. Any help appreciated.
Hope you get a good outcome surfichick, good luck0
