Feel a little conned by SKY

Options
I have recently upgarded my SKY to HD and on this months bill there are 2 box office items from Dec 2007 & Jan 2008. I cannot believe that I would still owe them for services used over 2 years ago.

I have called them and they they can actually charge upto 6 years later but I can only view my account activity for the last 12 months, surely there must be some sort of protection for the consumer.

  • Did you have the phone line connected on your old sky box?

  • A stern letter may help but I think there may be little you can do.

Really, I would of doubted that very much indeed.

I would of thought that they are limited to a couple of years in line with water, gas & elec.

That happened to me a few years ago, a friend was house sitting and watched a few films from Sky. I got home and he was complaining that it would not let him watch any more as the phone line was not connected.

Year later I got a new box and the installer plugged the phone line back in to update the box and it downloaded or whatever it does all the films he had watched.

And that was an analogue box.

I had to pay for them.

Satellite TV is not a regulated utility in the way that gas and electricity are. The normal 6 years debt limitations apply.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

If you didnt have the box connected to a phone line, the viewing card would have given you credit (upto £50) thinking the sky authorisation servers were busy and it would settle up at the next "Phone home" process however this didnt occur until your HD box was plugged back in and the engineer called home. You used them so pay for them
