Orange couldn't set up a Direct Debit - could I keep the iPhone for free?!
Cheeky question I know but here's the story:
I ordered an iPhone on an Orange contract for my girlfriend for Christmas - had a few issues with the ordering online - but nothing was mentioned. I had bought a PAYG phone for my mum and had a few issues with that order, namely not getting any confirmation and when "confirmation" was received, the order reference was blank, so I phoned them up and confirmed everything. This is why I rang them up to confirm everything after I submitted the order.
They said there were a few issues with my phone number and Credit Card number - this was down to using a different laptop that I'm not used to using and it has a lot smaller keys than my fat fingers could deal with. So they scrapped that order and started a new one over the phone. It all went through fine and I thought nothing more of it.
Today however, my girlfriend gets a text from Orange saying:
"Hi from Orange. Sorry, due to a technical error we couldn't set up a Direct Debit. Don't worry, please call us free on 150 and we'll sort it out."
Do I have to sort it out? Can I keep the phone and not have to pay for the contract?!
I'm guessing I will have to sort it all out, but it would be nice to not have to!
I'm not trying to get out of it, as I expect I will have to pay for it. I just don't know where I sit with this kinda thing!
Many thanks for any help in advance! :T:beer:

No, you pay for the goods/services you ordered. Why do you think you can get it for free? You said yourself it was your own fault for not inputting the data correctly. If you will the end, you must will the means.0

if the direct debit isnt set up bills will still be generate, you will still owe the amount, there are plenty of other ways to pay, and if you don't pay they will pass on the eventual debt to debt collectorsYes Your Dukeiness

I put the data in wrong on the first order, that order was scrapped - that should have nothing to do with the second order. That order was placed over the phone.0

you can pay orange bill via invoice also though so the only thing them not setting up a dd does is add around 3-4 quid on your bill for paying via invoice sadly0 -

So are you saying that over the phone you set up a direct debit from your girlfriend's bank account? I'm not surprised they had trouble. Did they not question why she had such a deep voice lol?0 -
