Barclaycard

Daft_Monkey wrote:Without wanting to sound offensive to anyone, to my opinion people still holding Barclay's products (out of promotion periods etc.) are the bone headed ones. Interestingly enough I still hold my main account with Barclays, but now I have the excuse of their Regular Saver. I got rid of their Barclaycard years ago, as it was offering nothing to me apart from a high limit (rubbish interest rates, rubbish rewards, rubbish insurance).
My personal opinion is that they are not looking to recover the £18 they've lost as a result of the OFT ruling, but to cut down their losses from bad debts due to irresponsible lending.
My girlfriend is being charged £60 a month for going over her overdraft limit for few days, mostly her fault, bad management, not moving money from her savings account to meet the extra expenditure on time. She asked for a higher limit,an extra £150 on the £250 she already had, but they never bothered. They prefer the £60 they get in charges. Well my friends, I'll make sure she gets every single penny back with interest and deprive them from any income they can make from her. I'm so !!!!!! off that I will also close my account with them once the Regular Saver period ends.
I will not sit idle when those close to me are being ripped off by Barclays or by any other bank or credit card.
Instead of the "those people claiming back charges etc are ruining it for us" attitude, keep in mind that the banks will always try and make money out of us no matter what and charge whatever they feel they can get away with, that being unauthorised overdraft charges, mortgage arrangement and redemption fees etc.
P.S Here's a thought: the extra interest is for the bubbly to celebrate 40 years of barclaycard.
Having been a member of this site for many years and experienced over vetting and over moderation an censorship, beyond belief at times. However
I am still a appalled by the lack of thought applied to some members posts when subject matter can not be expressed with out foul language. Quote "!!!!!! off" the site is open to all young and old even the tabloids dont post such language.Rememember. Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.

However it will not really affect me because on the plat visa I have a bt for life of debt at 2.9 percent. My question is has anyone else received this letter or perhaps they regard me as one of their riskier customers and I have been singled out.
i think the rates were a little differant to yours (i cant quite remember) but i'm not too fussed as i'v jsut transferred the balance to another card (o%for 9 months)...just on time by the looks of it too.0 -
i got one of these letters too. my apr was going from 14.9% to 19.9% i was outraged, thats a hike of 5%. i emailed them a couple of days ago, i ogt a bog standard reply just confurmming the increase, so i emailed them back.
i said i loved being with barclaycard and the great serivice ive had over the years and dont really want to swap cards but il have to if my rate goes up that much. i sudgested they could put me on the flexi rate card instead.
they passed my email over to thier costomer relations department, i got a call this morning.
the lovley lady said they couldnt drop the interest rate on my cash withdrawale (i never do that anyway so , am i bovered) but they will lower my interest rate to 12.9% instead! i recon thats a right result. instead of it going up by 5% its dropped by 2 instead! cool or what?
has anyone else got a result like this?
ive only got £500 on my card not thousands like some on here maybe that had something to do with it?
anyway, im dead chuffed.0 -
I have today received another letter from Barclaycard regarding the Plat Mastercard and they have advised my cash rate is going up to 27.9 percent but no mention of the apr on purchases. I assume then the 14.9 rate will stand. However on the Plat Visa they increased that to 19.9 percent.
Now where's the logic in that. Will phone them and report back.0 -

It is of course nothing to do with having to reimburse idiots who have incurred 'unlawful' credit card charges.
Did you really think that banks were just going to take the hit without fighting back! It will be current accounts next!!
hahaha. i'll be one person who will be getting back my money.
Barclaycard dropped the annual fee in 2001 simply because they could make more & more profit by stealing from its less well off customers.
i'm quite happy to pay charges, they just have to be inline with what they actually cost barclaycard. it dosent cost £20 to bounce a direct debit. they break the law when the do charge me that & i will have it back thanks!!!!
T&C's are worthless if they are unlawful.0 -

They might have a case in a court of law but to my mind do not deserve a penny for being too bone headed to read the small print in the first place. When I use my bank and credit cards I am fully aware of the charges the bank will apply to me (lawful or not) if I do not adhere to the conditions.0

My mother had 2 letter's from Barclaycard about them reducing charges, but upping the APR on both the Mastercard and Visa - the Mastercard jumped 24.9% APR on purchases and the Visa is now 21.9%!
Let's just say she's more than a little annoyed with them

what a load of cobblers.
the agents selling the endowments were telling people that this will pay off your mortgage & you will have thousands to spare, they didnt & lot have shortfalls.
this is called mis-selling, and they did it to earn comission.
the same agents sold with profit bonds to customers & never mentioned market value reduction should they wish to take their money out.
Credit card & bank charges are a different issue, the banks see pure profit from the "churners" and screw them into the ground. Why should you have free banking at the expense of the less well off?
it does not cost £38 to return a direct debit, this is why penalty charges are unlawful.
get your facts right sunshine!0 -
I believe that one day there will be a run on the banks, it might not be in my lifetime but it will happen. The banks have become arrogant and have forgotten that without customers satisfaction, and indeed customers, they have no business, they are blinded by their greed.
I am beginning to see their downfall happening, this website is part of the process, we all want to be DEBT FREE:j , this small thought is a ripple in the pond of life that will get bigger globally then where will the banks be.
They think they can put us back in our box with these latest rate increases, if they don't watch out we'd be putting them back in theirs.
With the internet as a sophisicated communication tool, we are now sharing information and knowledge, and we are wising up to their tactics. I know I have learnt a lot since being here, personally the most gratifying is learning to live without using my cards. Another nail in their coffin:cool:
They will be more and more people like me, bining their cards, so that we can live life to the full. So in the meantime we have to take these set-backs in our stride, and hopfully for some these increases might spur them to pay off their debts that much quicker.

I am totally in agreement with you, other leeches will disagree but Barclaycard have been ripping customers off for along time whilst the rich get richer, i will be claiming .Rememember. Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.
