bath not draining

evening all,
I have a problem with my bath slowly draining. Today was the first time I have noticed it.
I put some drain cleaner down twice today but it seems to have made it worse in that no water is draining.
I have disconnected the plumbing pipes and cleaned them. The water gets down to the bendy plastic pipe but appears to get stuck in the straight pipe. I have to disconnect these two pipes to drain the water out of the end of the bendy plastic.
Any advice?

An amount of water is supposed to stay in the "bendy plastic" bit.
It stops smells like you wouldnt believe coming back up your plughole...Not Again0 -
I understand that some water has to stay in the bendy plastic but I still have excess water in the bath0

Is the plughole free & clear?
Is the bendy bit (a trap) free & clear?
Is the overflow clear where it attachs below the bath?
How far does the pipe run (after the trap)? Does it slope gently downwards? Is there any other waste pipes attached to it before it joins the main soil pipe (which is 100-110mm wide)? Not Again0 -
I've had the same problembeforeand it's been a hair blockage that I couldn't get to. 99p shop, tube of Veet, squeezed it down and then ran the hot tap half an hour later-all done!!Remember to always be yourself-unless you suck. Joss Whedon0

How far does the pipe run (after the trap) about 1m Does it slope gently downwards? yes Is there any other waste pipes attached to it before it joins the main soil pipe (which is 100-110mm wide)? after the 1m plastic pipe, it is 90 degree bend to what appears to be a metal pipe which i think leads to the soil pipe0 -
Could the pipe outside be frozen? Happened to my bathroom sink one. Was frozen solid, I attacked it with the plunger n all thinking my daughter had been washing her extensions in the sink again
Attempted to take pipes off until i seen all the black paint coming back into the sink from the outside pipes.

Do you live in a flat or a house?
Is the bath on the top floor?
Is it freezing where you are?
Is there a WC & sink in the room? Are there any noticeable problems with these? Are you sure these wastes join the soil pipe seperately to the bath?
Is there a rodding point installed in the pipework? Not Again0 -
I live in a massionette - I have 2 levels with one person below me on 1 level.
Bath is situated on top floor
Toilet and wash basin in same room - both fine
not freezing where i am
dont know about how each waste joins the soil pipe
dont know what a rodding point is0 -

A rodding point is added (sometimes not because people cant be bother or forget) to a waste pipe. It is a little piece that can be removed so you can poke a rod down to free a blockage. On a plastic waste pipe it is often circular & looks like there is a big cross hairs on it..
I would try and find this point (if its there) & poke something down it more than a metre long down to the 90 degree bend.
If that is clear fill the bath & sink. Empty them both at the same time whilst keeping the sink taps running (& watch it all the time).
If the sink drains ok the blockage is in the 90 degree bend. If it doesnt drain the blockage is in the soil pipe below the outlet of the sink & bath.
Hopefully the vent isnt blocked at the top which may have caused the problem but more than likely the flat under you has the problem or the drain gully..Not Again0 -
