supermarket disabled bays

I read today that Tesco was holding off fining people who don't have blue badges displayed when parking in their disabled bays.
Well done Tesco.Asda and Sainsburys are asking people to cough up £60 as a "fine" if someone parks not displaying a badge in one of their disabled bays. How discriminatory is that? apart from illegal. There are thousands of people entitled to park in these bays who have disabilities but no badge. If you're thinking -well if they were disabled why don't they have one? Getting a blue badge isn't easy for a start as it's all based around mobility. But examples of people who need to be near the entrance can be cancer patients, people with heart problems, respiratory and breathing problems, people with colostomies and ileostomies, people who have problems carrying.. the list of disabled people who are ENTITLED to use the bays without a blue badge is endless. The Disability Discrimination Act covers all people with disabilities- not just blue badge holders. That only applies when parking on the streets when it is enforcable by law.
If you get a fine by Asda or any other store you should refer them to the Equality and Human Rights Commission who know about the D.D.A. or say you'll fine them!!

Or just ignore any 'fine' and letters that are sent after parking in a Supermarket car park as they are not worth the paper they are written on.
But where did you read this about Tesco, out of interest, do you have a link? They often use the same parking-scam firms as Sainsburys and Asda anyway.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

It was on Disability Now I think,where-ironically,people were applauding Asda's moves!!0

This is a strange paradox.
Many PPCs who ticket blue badge holders go to great pains to make it clear that the badges are not valid on private land.
Why, then, are they using non-display of said badge as a reason for issuing one of their invoices?
You can't have it both ways (unless you're a PPC!).....Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Fining people who abuse these disabled bays is long overdue. If you don't have a badge, don't use them.Mortgage free

Not sure that my friend with a colostomy would agree that she needs to use a disabled bay, given she holds down a full time job, runs her house, goes skiing and rambling etc. And doesn't consider herself disabled or in need of special treatment. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

I agree, but let's have the fining done by someone who actually has the authority to fine, rather than someone who pretends to by sending threatening letters from their kitchen table!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Your friend doesn't have to agree or use a disabled bay. Doesn't mean someone else with a colostomy bag shouldn't be entitled to use a disabled bay.0 -

The badges don't mean anything on private land. (And neither do the fines)0 -
OP, the disabled spaces are reserved for Blue Badge holders only not for all people with disabilities. I would urge anyone who qualifies for one to get a Blue Badge.I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to breakMy attitude depends on my Latitude 49° 55' 0" N 6° 19' 60 W0

Tesco, Morrisons or any other supermarket or any private parking companies do not have the authority to find anyone, disabled or not,
having a blue badge or not. Only the council and the police have this authority.
These 'fines' are unenforceable and the way you treat them is to completely ignore them, no matter how many threats about court or bailiffs that they say they may carry out. Just ignore them, they cannot do a thing.
Disabled bays in supermarkets are just a courtesy and nothing else.
Same goes for Parent and Child parking spaces.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0
