One new green thing a week!

Okay we all want to be greener but there are so many things to remember to do and in all the hub bub we (oh well I) forget. So i have decided and perhaps some people may like to join me to do one new green thing a week. the theory is that this way i can concentrate on remembering to do it and then get so used to doing it during that week that it will become easy and therefore not forgotten in the following weeks.
So what should be the FIRST weeks task. my thoughts are
- use no carrier bags, remembering to take ones to the shops.
- remember to put food in the composter and not the bin cause its nearer
- turn off all electrical items at the wall
So who would like to join me and what shall we agree to do first?

I tend to turn electric things off at the wall, so the carrier bag option would be the one for me too0

find a sturdy old plastic box for containing your recyclables
got the kids absolutley loving making the weekly trek to the recycling bins!wading through the treacle of life!
debt 2016 = £21,000. debt 2021 = £0!!!!0 -
i have now started using the old style hand whisk the one that you turn the handle on the side.. for cooking.... rather than use my electric big multi thing..
so no use of electric....nothing really ca go wrong with them so dont need to throw them away and renew.. every now and again.... plus... i also class it as exercise......Work to live= not live to work0 -
I'll join in. I'd vote for carrier bags first.0

I'm a good girl!!!
I managed to remember to take my boxes to sainsburys tonight and pack my shopping in those instead of using carrier bags. Mind you the girl on the checkout looked at me daft when I said I didn't need a hand to pack as I had my own boxes in the car0 -
BTW, when did sainsburys stop doing their penny back scheme for not using carrier bags???????0

arkonite_babe - youv'e started already well done!! :j
Off to the shops now, i have put a re-useable bag (free from my race for life run last week) in handbag so its always there and i will take one of my bag for life bags off to the shops now.
SusanCarter - let us all know how you get on this week and thanks for joining in.

I've emailled Sainsburys to ask why they stopped the penny back scheme and the smart boxes. If I get a reply I'll post it up here for you all to see0

please can I join the carrier bag game. just back from Ireland and majority of people seem to have the 'bags for life', shops charge for carriers I think, we were very good and took our own anyway. it was really noticeable while we were there that we hadn't got a ready made supply 'under the sink' like we have at home for putting our rubbish in, once they have had a few trips out of course.
I think this is an excellent first one green thing a week to start on, am back now from hols newly greener, must have been all the rain last week eh?Carolbee0
