Freeview recorder?

Options
Santa was very generous this year, and we've decided to update our bog standard freeview box with a recordable one.

The Humax PVR-9150T seems to have everything that we need, but i've read a couple of negative reviews of them.

anyone got one?? or have an opinon of them??

cheers

My aunt and my dad both have the Humax 9200T.

My aunt uses hers all the time and thinks it's absolutley wonderful! Dad just uses his occasionally as he has Sky+ as well.

I would get the 9150T without hesitation - they are much better than any other Freeview recorder.

There are a few issues,( but then there is with anything), have a look at Digital Spy forums.

I am on my second one, the first one stopped loading after a few weeks and I had to get it exchanged, losing the last 5 episodes of The Wire and a few films.

If a HDR fails and it does not have the facility to download the HD onto another HD or computer,(which the 9150 doesn't), then you lose everything on the HD,(unlike VCRs & DVDRs where if the machine fails you don't lose your recordings).

Touch wood not much has happened to this one since I got it on September, except a couple of freezes, which is an easy fix of turning off at the mains then turning back on again, but if the freeze happens during a timed record, then you lose that and any other recordings planned.

  • Topfield boxes usually come out quite good in reviews.

Go for the Humax 9300T, hard drive is twice the size and it has an HDMI output.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Cheers guys for all your help.
I think im gonna plump for the 9150.
The Topfield is unfortunatly out of my price range, and the dont need the HDMI that the 9300 offers.

    thanks again

  • I have the 9150 in the bedroom and the 9300 in the sitting room and while I don't need the hard drive size in both I would prefer to be able to use an HDMI cable rather than scart since updated the bedroom tv, just something to think about.

Worth keeping an eye on the Manager's Special website here...

I've used Humux in the past, I've still got one in fact but have since signed up to V+ with Virgin Media so, for now, the Humux has been put in storage. But I have to say that in some ways I actually prefer using the Humux than I do V+ as there are features on it that are missing on the V+ box. For instance, a search facility so you can search for programmes to record, on V+ you have to scroll through the Listings to look for the programme which are limited to a weeks schedule.

    Go for it!
  • Hi
I have been considering one of these for a while as Sky+ box hard drive size is not up to much. Is it easy to use in conjunction with SDky+?
I gve up trying to connect an HDMI box to work alongside Sky+ as whatever I did and however I connected the cables, I had no sound on recordings.
I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to break :D

I asked the guy who fitted our V+ box if we could connect our Humux and use it as an additional drive and he said yes so I would think you would too!

As well as 9300 and 9150, the Humax 9200T is still available as 'Grade A' recon from Humax direct website at £89+p&p inc 1 yr on site warranty. We have one and very pleased with it.
