That would be great thanks Donnie, though you'll have to tell me exactly what to do with them when I get them! The computer seems to be getting even slower and is frequently "freezing" on me.
I'll p.m. you with my email address.Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0 -
Seems as though Word isn't your only problem. I've sent the files. Use http://www.releaseram.com/ for more efficient memory use and use the SpyBot 'Tools' to minimise the amount of processes started when you power up Windows.0

Hi Donnie,
Well, I've now got normal.dot back thanks! When I save a Word document, it's no longer being duplicated and, so far, it doesn't seem to be freezing on me. However, it's still VERY slow and, I think you're right, there must be something else wrong with it.
I've run and installed releaseram, but recently had to delete Spybot due to the endless dialogue boxes that kept popping up saying that various things had been blocked. There were just too many messages appearing on the screen that I'm sure contributed to it freezing constantly.
I've thought of deleting the AVG virus/adaware/cwshredder software that I've recently installed to see if there's an improvement, as it's probably since I installed these that it's been on a "go slow". What do you think?
Cheers,

YES!!!! Seem to have cured the Windows speed problem!
I had an icon on my desktop for Word and, whenever I clicked on it, the egg timer would be up for ages and it would sometimes freeze to the extent I had to switch off the machine. The whole of Windows seemed to slow right down.
I tried deleting the icon and went into Start, Programs and
Microsoft Word and clicked on it to create another desktop icon (I don't think I created the original desktop icon this way, though I can't remember how I did it!).
Speed problem now cured! Will know in time if there's still a tendancy for it to crash or not.
Many thanks to all for your help and especially Donny for all the suggestions, sticking with me and sending me another normal.dot file.Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0 -
Deleted SpyBot!!! No! :) Those pop up boxes are a function of the 'Tea Timer'.
Once you make your choices and then tick that you want that choice remembered they don't pop up anymore.
But it is most useful when you are installing software as it monitors any possible changes to your registry.
I recommend re-installing SpyBot. You can disable Tea Timer from 'Settings' in you prefer.
I wouldn't bother about delete programs, as you could use SpyBot to stop these programs from starting.
You can also use SpyBot to 'lock down' Internet Explorer. This prevent ANY unauthorised changes.
It I had to choose to keep one piece of software out of all of the spyware detectors, I would choose to keep SpyBot.0 -
Sorry, but I have no idea what a "tea timer" is??Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0

Tea Timer is part of the latest SpyBot program. It monitors any changes to your registry. It can be disabled/enabled within the 'settings' section of SpyBot.0
