  • Council tax varies depending on where you live. I'll give the figures for where I live:

2 bedroom house in south Wiltshire (all figures are per month)

    council tax - £120 ish
water - £25 ish (not on a meter)
    gas & electricity - £100 ish
    tv licence - £12 ish

Hope that helps! The council tax depends on the banding of the property but you'll probably find a 1/2 bed appmt would be band A, B or C.
  • Hi,

You can check the council tax band for any property by calling the local office and giveing then the address.

I agree with what chocolate says above, My gas and electric about 60 a month but depends who you go with,
Dont forget contents insurance also, and if you want phone /broadband you would need to cost that too.
    those are the basics

I think that's a reasonably fair assessment which will sit comfortably with most people. The Water/Sewerage may be more if the property is in the SW as the water prices are nearly double here.

    Other considerations may be:

Telephone Line ~ £12 a month (Rental only)
    Buildings & Contents Insurance ~ £15-£20 a month

You may also want to factor in a "wear & tear" safety net for all those pesky property repairs!

    I consider £100 a month a hideous amount to spend on gas/electric.

Band A property expect around £80-90 month council tax.
electric for 2 people perhaps around £20-25 month
gas around £5 month in summer and about £40 month in winter.

these vary of course depending on lifestyle and type of heating as well as quality of boiler.

Hi Marsh180291 - From your post I gather that you are still looking for a suitable flat, in which case I would advise that you turn down any thing on offer that only has Eco 7 electric Storage Radiator Heating & Hot Water.
Even on a 'good' tariff a 2 bed flat can easily run up annual bills of £1200 or more, and whilst looking, also avoid any property with a Key card meter.
    Good Luck

    .

Precisely. Type of insulation, type of heating (electric or gas), age of property. Where is the property? I'd have to guess heating requirements are higher up North - yet, in the SW our electricity is more expensive than other areas.

All unknowns and the whole thread is based upon guesses. My own electricity & gas is £150 a month, which I am perfectly comfortable with given my lifestyle.
  • If you're going to move into a flat/appartment there may well be service fees and I think these can be up to £200pm.
And if, you know, your history...

They can vary a lot, depending on a lot of factors. However, as a guide - I've listed below the costs we incur.

    Council Tax - £100 - £130 a month
    Gas - £20 - £40 a month
    Electric - £15 - 20 a month
    Water - £25 - 35 a month
    Telephone - £12 a month (plus calls)
TV - £12 a month for the licence, plus any Sky/Cable fees.
    Broadband - £10 - £20 a month.
    Insurance - £5 - £10 a month.

You won't need to pay any service charge/maintenance if you are renting, but would need to factor in another £100-£150 a month if you are buying.
Self confessed nerd when it comes to anything financial and/or numerical!

Depend on the flat/house my OH had a small house in rugby and because it was built on top of a flat it was classed as part of the block. the whole block paid a set amount each month for gas and electric regardless of usage i think it was about £100.

This is roughly what I pay for a 2 bed flat in West Sussex too
Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.
