How can you ever prover the trackings been adjusted correctly? or at all in fact- you wont know till several hundred miles later, and if you ask the garage to check, they will always say "Its out"

Yes because soon as you drive the car on a flat road it will go in a straight line and not vear off to one side.

But suppose it dont "Veer to one side" to start with, your car would have to be miles out for this to happen

Is the wrong answer. The one and only time I ever asked Kwik-Fit to track a car, it drove straight. 300 miles later ( one week commuting) it was worn down to canvas on the insides of both tyres.

Turns out they'd only tracked it on one side, quite considerably, as the other track rod end had seized (second place unseized it with a bit of heat) so it screwed up the geometry on cornering but still drove in a straight line.

And to clear up the tyre law as stated. it reads there must be 1.6mm of tread on the central 3/4 of the tyre and visable tread on the outer edges.

No, sorry, it doesn't say that, you have mixed up two or more different groups of vehicles.

[*]the central three-quarters of the breadth of tread, and

Note: Each side of the central band of the tyre can be devoid of tread (ie. ‘bald’) and still meet the pass.

A tread pattern must be visible over the whole tread area on
