Freeview problems

Options
Hi, i hope you all had a good christmas. I got my kids a tv with freeview for a present, but we cant pick up any channels with the aerial we have, we also have a freeview box in our room that we never use as the signal is rubbish. What would be the cheapest and best way to go about sorting it out? Would it just be easier to call a specialist in, and if so how much roughly would it cost? Thanks so much in advance, and a happy new year to you all xxxxxx

Even the best specialist in the world won't improve a rubbish signal.
What aerial setup are you using? Your best bet in a weak signal areas is a properly set up rooftop aerial, if the signal is marginal and you are using a set-top aerial then it's not going to work.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • We are just using aerials from argos, they did say they were compatible with freeview, obv not tho lol. How much would a roof aerial cost to be supplied and fitted, roughly, do you know, i wonder if the workmen are getting loads of calls at the moment or if i'd be able to get it cheaper as work is quiet. I bet theyre bogged down with people who have bought their kids tvs with freeview and cant get a signal lol x
  • I'd suggest it is the arial,we bought an indoor one from currys which was meant to work with freeview and it was rubish, we took it back and got a refund. I think getting an arial man out is your best bet, theyre usually quick to respond, and shouldnt be too expensive. HTH. TMM
  • how much is not too expensive lol, would just like a guide price. Think an aerial man is the best bet, all sorted then straight away x

A rough guide price would be around the £75/ £150 mark, depending on your location etc.
  • I got an aerial man out about 4-5 yrs ago coz freeview was pixelated, he tested the strength of signal coming thru & he said it was the aerial lead - which was a cheap diy pack from argos.
He was here nearly an hour, it was £40 & he fitted a heavy aerial cable.

My uncle lives in Lancs and a couple of years ago he got a new aerial fitted on roof for same price.
  • I have just moved home and can only pick up some of the freeview channels. It's a old house so do you think i'll need to upgrade my aerial aswell?

Try it and see. You may have to retune the receiver (TV, box etc) if it's not a new one.
