Hi everyone
I bought a new website design software with TEMPLATES so I can make a new website for a local community group.
Previous to this I used DREAMWEAVER which I felt was way too complicated for me but managed to design a very simple website.
My problem is that Santa brought me a new computer and after transferring all, my DREAMWEAVER prog cannot be found although I do have the files of the old website. I wished I had removed the website using Dreamweaver, prior to transfering the data to my new computer.
Can anyone advise me how to remove my old website from the internet in the simplest of terms?

I eagerly await your reply

Kind regards
Clare

I think you're going to need to explain a bit more about where your website is hosted - and therefore where you upload your web pages to for them to be visible on the internet. Possibly on a server run by your Service Provider?

Once you know where, you should not need to use Dreamweaver to be able to delete the existing content.

    Hi again
Its FREE webspace with my ISP which was lineone and then tiscali. I have since left tiscali and am now with BT.
But I can still view my website online.

Is this the info you are needing?

    Kind regards
    Clare

I think that Dreamweaver as well as designing the website, also connects to your webhosting and uploads/updates the online files. This is a shortcut for the usual method of using FTP to attach to the webhosting, and manually uploading/downloading/deleting.

You will need some FTP client software such as the free Filezilla, and you can then connect using your webspace details (address, username, password), and do the changes you require.

All very reasonable, except that it ~looks~ as though the website is hosted by Tiscali, while the OP is no longer a Tiscali customer. The OP won't (I think) be able to change/delete that content because the Tiscali login details will no longer be valid.

If that's true, the only hope of deleting it would be to contact Tiscali, ask them to remove it, and then set up the equivalent on a server hosted by BT (I assume that the "not with BT" should be "now with BT").

Yes I agree, I think the OP updated about Tiscali whilst I was posting :D
As you say, if the logon details have been revoked, then the only way is contact Tiscali - or wait.......

Would you believe it.......I can still access my email account on LINEONE on the TISCALI website!
I used my LINEONE login details to upload the original website using DREAMWEAVER.
So now I am hoping you very clever people can advise me how to delete the website. (fingers crossed)
    Kind regards

If you have FTP login details, then download and install Filezilla from the link I gave before. Try to connect, and if successful all the things you see will be yours, and can presumably be deleted. It may be in a folder called Public_HTML.

Many years ago I used to have a free dial up account with LineOne. The e-mail associated with that still works as well. I think to access personal webspace you actually have to connect through the ISP that hosts it (i.e. Tiscali).

    Hi again
I have downloaded filezilla but dont know which file to click on to install it.
I have since found the following link with instructions on how to use it.......http://faq.oneandone.com/web_space__access/ftp_account/filezilla_guide/1.html
Please advise......as I am a lady of a "certain age".....smiles and prone to a few "senior moments"

    Update.....
Managed to download prog successfully and open prog.....not too sure on what to do next.
I think this will not work for me. It wont allow me to connect.
If this fails will I have to ring Tiscali even though I have left them in April and request they remove my website?

    Kind regards
    Clare

I think you are right. Will I then have to ring Tiscali and plead with them to take down the website?
