Stop buying sandwiches

I find that I'm spending a reasonable amount of money buying sandwiches for lunch when I am at work.
I go through stages where I make sandwiches at home to stop spending this money, and it works for a bit, but one day i'll get bored of what's in my home made sandwiches, or I forget to make them one day and I end up buying one, then i'm off again. I also find I like to go out of the office at lunch, and walking to get a sandwich is a good, but expensive excuse.

So, any tips on how to avoid spending this, or how to make varied and interesting sandwiches at home, that don't cost much?

This is so me. My biggest expense is buying food at work :o

I am going to try and stop this in the New Year when I go back. We have a microwave so I am going to take in little meals or soups.

Maybe we should have a challenge not to buy them lol

I have this problem. I find sandwiches made by someone else always taste better than home made ones (WHY!?) - I think that's just all in the head though.

I'm going to have to take sarnies to work this week but I bet I will eat them as soon as I get there! lol

I am so guilty of getting bored wit what i've brought in and gonig to mc donalds or gregs!
What i've done is fill my drawer at work with a variety of soups, noodles and other long shelf life filling foods so that i've no excuse, if i want soup i have a selection, if i want noodles i have them etc etc. It works to some extent but if i find i am desperate to go out and get something i go to the supermarket and buy reduced bread or rolls and reduced sandwich filler - that can make 3 days worth of lunch for about £1!

  • I know what you mean, I think its definitely a mental thing. I can make exactly the same sandwiches that are in the shop, but they some how taste better when I don't make them.

I think that's definitely a good challenge for the new year, stop buying sandwiches!
  • I recently managed to save nearly £4 a day.

It wasnt lunch the problem but breakfast. As I start at 7 my co-workers and I tend to have breakfast at work about 08:30. this used to be two bacon & agg rolls from the van with a tin of juice. Now its sainsbury weetabix. I save nearly £4 a day. A four pint of milk and £2 for the weetabix is all I spend a week on breakfast now.

Perhaps in the new year I will take a similar approach to my lunch.
When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.

LOL I'm exactly the same as the OP. I do really well for a while, the I get bored with what's in or run out of time in the morning, or I try to justify the psend with "well, it's a Friday/Monday/Day with a Y in it" and get something! Bad! Will try harder 2010. We should do a challenge! :)

I'm exactly the same! :o My sandwiches just don't taste the same no matter how lovely the bread or filling!!

I think this is the one area that I've really struggled with since having my lightbulb moment and starting my DMP.

It frightened me something silly when I worked out how much I was spending on lunch and takeaway coffees. I don't miss the takeaway coffees and had no problem stopping buying them. Lunch is another story ...

On the whole, I do make my own lunch whether it be sandwiches, salad, or leftover dinner but I do have a tendency to slip into buying it instead.

  • This is an area I need to cut down on as well in the new year. I work 12 hour days and have a breakfast and lunch break so before you know it £7 has gone in the canteen.
I think my problem is that I'm just not organised enough to plan something the night before so thats something I need to work on. Its not even like the meals in the canteen are that nice!
