  • Fab thread!! Big hugs to all the diet coke fiends out there- I know how it feels!x I don't like hot drinks and would buy so much of it so bad for me! I gave up Christmas day. Reasons to stop drinking it:
it contains aspartame (nasty stuff in all sugar free drinks)
    expensive
even though no cals drinking the stuff has been linked to weight gain!
    Xx
as for sarnies, what are they like frozen?? I was thinking pittas ans wraps.x

Wayhey! New lunch idea! OH and me just went to a new mexican fast food type place, they do burrito bowls - a burrito but with out the wrap and in a box instead, it's amazing, i will definately be making my own for lunch, and so filling too! I've not even managed to eat half of mine yet!

this is something that i really need to get back in to. I drive past a HUGE tesco on my way to work and it's far too easy to pop in on the way to work to buy lunch. It does work out marginally cheaper and healthier than eating in the canteen, but it's still a less than ideal situation.

i want to eat healthier, which isnt going to happen if i keep shopping en route to work every morning. it's laziness and poor organisation, no other excuse for it.

The one i had, was a base of rice, with shredded chicken (in a fajita type marinade) pinto beans, lettuce, onions, salsa, guacamole, sour cream and cheese. Was lovely!

I'm planning to start making a tray of cornish pasties at the beginning of the week (possibly vegan ones with vegan sausage instead of meat), freeze 'em then defrost one or two a night. Cornish pasties are one thing where home-made kicks a*se compared to shop-bought. Cheap too - pastry and tons of carrots and onions, use basics flour and marg and it's probably 50p for two. Add brown sauce and it's heaven on earth!

Thats really good idea, i'm going to look through my recipe books tonight and trying prepare as much food tomorrow that i can freeze and take as I need it.

Oh this thread is so me! When I first started working I used to eat out all the time, and in central London it was close to £5 a day at its best. Absolutely mad - no wonder I didn't have any money left for overpaying!

Luckily, I work in a charity so most people are budget conscious (read: underpaid :-)) so bringing in your lunch is the norm. In the summer I got into a great routine of bringing in salad with homemade vinaigrette (in a recycled jar, not on the salad so it wouldn't get soggy!), to which I would add tomato and avocado if it was on offer. With that I'd have a grilled mushroom (filled with pesto and stuck on the grill for about 3 minutes in the morning) on a roll, really lovely and everyone with their £5 Subway lunches would glare in envy!

In winter its usually soup (butternut squash or lentil and veg) with a roll, mushroom risotto, pasta with veg and pesto or leftovers if there are any. I tend to buy the roll from a bakery which is on my way to work, which is only about 20p and I do mostly to support the local business, since we don't have many!

I also keep my desk full of apples - I buy some of the bagged ones at the beginning of the week and it saves me from running out for snacks. Sometimes go for bananas too, if they are reasonable.

My big issue though is that there is a Wasabi on my way home from work, and I frequently stop for just £1 or £2 of sushi and pickles... Must stop this ASAP as its totally unnecessary and not great for my waist either!

Well, I've just made two ham butties and popped them into the freezer ready for next week - so fingers crossed  I'll have couple of cheap lunches. Also bought a quiche from the Co-op that was reduced to 75p so I've cut that up into six pieces and frozen it so I can take a piece to work with some salad for some of my lunches too.

I'm going to cook spicy meatballs, a homemade quiche and a sausage casserole this afternoon and will take out some and freeze as individual portions before we eat any, otherwise my OH will eat double portions and there won't be any leftovers!
