Unexplained charge - orange contract

Hello all.

I have an 18 month contract with Orange that I took out in June through Phones4u.

It is £25 a month and came with a free Blackberry 8900 curve, 500 minutes and 600 texts and the blackberry internet/ email package.

Everything has been junky dorey bills have been coming in at the £25-27 mark due to a couple of calls to 0844 numbers.

However this month my bill has come through at £29.73

On checking I have a rather dubious addition to my bill.

on 4/12/2009 at 3.50pm it just says To Whom - "Game" with no phone number and "call class - content" £4.25.

Is there a number to call to query this? As I do download as I get data free but do not pay for any games etc?

Have you received any subscribed text messages, such as games (jamester), other services like bus/train times etc?

Nope, I do get Natwest current account updates but they come weekly and are part of my package I believe.

Data may be free on your contract but the games cost money (usually the figure of £4 to £5 per game).

Thought you meant you did download games by the original statement

"As I do download as I get data free but do not pay for any games etc?"

Just give them a call to find out what the charge is for, online billing might have it not sure how Orange works.

By what you have described, some game has been downloaded (or appears to have been) - anything on the phone to confirm that? i.e new game installed?
  • I know that a while ago (maybe a couple of years) some ppl I knew were having money automatically deducted from their calling credit on PAYG mobiles. This was seemingly for something they had apparently subscribed to - they hadn't!

I think it's worth giving Orange a call and fighting it out with them. They also may be able to give you more details as to the origin of this charge.

Hi there sorry yes I do download "apps" for my blackberry but I always make sure they are free before downloading them I do not download any games however and have not downloaded any "apps" for a few months now.

I would have been in work at 3.50pm on a Friday, so its got me baffled.

Hmm were you on a free internet trial thats stopped or something?
Guess work I am afraid - best way to know what the charge is to call them or online billing might have more information.

Anything you download is free (subject to having a data bundle), the one of costs are usually from received paid text messages. If you have downloaded a pay app then you would have paid before downloading, as your internet use is not tied to your phone number. (i,e, a website doesn't know your phone number or account just because you used your handset instead of a PC)

You really need to give orange a call, there are lots of premium rate text scams out their been sent to people who never subscribed.
