Oops, having based all my research on a standard king size mattress, I've just realised that our current mattress seems to be 155 cm x 200 cm.

The standard is 150 cm but it's definitely more than that (and the bed fits more) but it's not as big as 160 thus is not EU size either. The bed is made from oak and the company where I bought it 10 years ago has since gone bust (Furnitureland).

Does anyone know where i could get a good pocket sprung mattress with good memory foam but in an odd size?

    Cheers

    Eva

155cm is only 5'1", so it would still be a standard king size mattress.

just had to add my dream bed to this, it will never be mine at this price though

You could save money and place a TV on a table at the foot of your bed....lol
  • Any opinions on a Kozeesleep Empress, superking? we have a budget of £900 and this seems a good buy for a matress with 1500 pocket springs and a sprung divan with two drawers.

    Sorry can not post link

Has anyone any experience of either the Sensaform Sirius Supreme (yes I did a search, but there seems to be no comments on whether their 'Nasa' Climatemaster technology actaully works to stop the over heating problem)Kingsize £900; or Benson Beds, Airflow 1250, £579 KS? Many thanks

There have been a few posts with negative reports on Sensaform mattresses. They are Sleepmasters own brand, and they appear to be made to a very low spec.

At £900 for a king size it is at least 3x the price you should be looking at for that spec mattress. You can take their RRP with a pinch of salt.

The Channels are useless because they will be squashed when you are laying on it.

Climatemaster is just another climate control fabric (I don't know where you read that it was developed by NASA). The best ones on the market are Outlast and Climasmart.

It doesn't say the depth or the density of the memory foam.

It is memory foam on top of reflex foam. Reflex foam only gives the equivalent support to open coil springs (but doesn't last as long), and doesn't even come close to the support provided by pocket springs. Reflex foam mattresses are also very hot.

The Airflow mattress contains the much smaller and less supportive reflex foam encapsulated pocket springs. The reflex foam also prevents air circulating, which allows heat to build up.

Again it doesn't state the depth or the density of the memory foam.

It is non turn (which isn't good for pocket springs).

I'd say the sale price is double what you should be paying.

If I were you I would stay away from big brand names and big chain stores if you want good quality at a low price, and shop on line from a seller who gives a proper satisfaction guarantee that allows you to actually unpack and sleep on the mattress. This way it is in their interest to make sure that you make the right choice the first time.

Memory foam was developped by NASA, and I suppose it is possible that NASA were involved in the development. But I think you will find that most of the development was done by Dupont.
