Anyone on Virgin Mobile?

Have just found really great Sim only deal for £10 and was thinking of changing daughter over (currently with Orange and reception and coverage for our area is really rubbish). I`m sure Virgin can`t be any worse! and its £5 a month cheaper for same deal of unlimited texts and 200 mins - you also get free uk voice mail.

Just wanted comments / info on anyone who is with them. (we have TV, phone and broadband with them and have had no problems).

Many thanks

They use the T-Mobile network. If possible, it might be worth getting a free T-Mobile PAYT sim just to check coverage is OK first. That said, the T-Mobile streetcheck seems a little more accurate than that of other networks (particularly Orange's one - says "excellent" for me here, I can get 1 bar outside if lucky!!)

    Streetcheck is on http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/services/coverage/street-check/

I use them and I'm happy (I spend most of my time in London where I find T-Mobile's 3G coverage first rate) and also spend a lot of time in North Birmingham where I also have no problems.

I've been with them for years on £10 direct debit - 300 text & 300 minutes. Never had a problem, except when I take phone abroad.

Thank you both for replies. I am on T`Mobile pay as you go and its been ok for me, but will check the link many thanks for that.

Orange is just so rubbish!! says coverage etc should be very good for our area yet have to hang out of window to get even a low signal.

For the price I think its a great deal, same as what we are paying just under £15 for with Orange. Its £10 with virgin for 200 mins and unlimited texts (its for daughters phone) and its a sim only deal on 30 days cancellation, so could always try it for a couple of months and if not look round for something else.

We are waiting for the code from orange to transfer the number over and have to go and get phone unlocked (found local shop which charges £10)
  • as you have virgin tv etc you may be able to get better deal with them - maybe worth checking the website.

I am with them and they texted me an offer just before xmas:

600 mins and unlimited texts for 15 pounds per month, 30 day rolling contract. (Or could call and say your friend had this offer and you want to take it up?)

Thank you very much thats a great contract. However the £10 for 200 mins and unlimited texts is ok at the moment for a 13 year old and the cheapest I can find. Whilst she tends to do quite a lots of texts so this is why we need unlimited she only uses about 40 mins of calls at the most.

Don`t think I`d get this sim only deal any less as its a special offer only on till the end of Jan.
  • I am on the 200mins unl texts good contract, no problem. If you are already a virgin media customer I think you get virgin to virgin calls free?

I have the 200 mins and unlimited texts for £10 deal that youre talking about and it is good although there is a "fair usage" of approx 3,000 texts per months, would your 13 year old exceed this!!!! my teenager would give it a good go! Also some 08 numbers are not covered by the 200 minutes and are added to your bill each month. Hope this helps.

lozzaman have just done a check from your link, many thanks. It is telling me coverage is very good in Southport where we are (so does Orange but I know from experience they tell fibs!) my t`mobile works fine all around here.

Switched from an Orange PAYG to them a few months ago... was putting about £20-30 a month credit on my phone (do a lot of quick email checks and returning answerphone messages via work) and went onto their £18 a month deal with the unlimited (within limits) internet access... very pleased with them so far.

Few glitches getting the phone activated and set up properly, usual eternal joy of dealing with Virgin's hideously bad Indian call centre but no problems since then and a phone I love as well (got the Nokia E63). Working out cheaper for what I use the phone for than PAYG was.

I get free Virgin-Virgin calls as an extra because I've got Cable TV/Net/Phone already with 'em.
