not a registered business

hi,im not sure where to post so thought id try here, sorry if its wrong. My partner and i split up 6 months ago when i was 8 months pregnant,we also have a 2 year old.He has given us money a few times but recently has become less and less.He couldnt afford it due to xmas,he has another son from his previous marriage along with 2 step kids and now is with a woman who has 2 children.anyway long story short he has his own business, kind of handyman, poperty maintainance and window cleaning.Dont know alot about business but i do know nothing is registered,he just collects money, mainly cash, pays no tax,has no insurance or whatever it is your supposed to do if your self employed.he also employs a few people.tried CSA but not much help as he says he doesnt work when i know this is a lie.who would i have to contact to say he has a business. He has changed his business mobile number and i dont even have a contact number for him now as this is the number i have been told to use if i need him.i know the areas where he works, and he makes a very good living from this yet wont contribute to his childrens upkeep.Dont want to sound like i just want revenge, but he is lying.thanks

I'll move your thread over to the CSA board - sadly I don't think there is much you CAN do - CSA can't do much if he legally doesn't work - maybe you cou;ld report him to HMRC? If you could provide some sort of evidence of him working...

if he's working CIH then there's about as much chance of him having liability insurance as me winning miss world. :rotfl:

CSA wont investigate. as they keep telling me, they don't care about benefit and IR fraud as that's another department.

the onus will be down to you to supply proof to the IR, then the csa will assess him on what the IR work his profit out to be.
NEVER ARGUE WITH AN IDIOT. THEY'LL DRAG YOU DOWN TO THEIR LEVEL AND BEAT YOU WITH EXPERIENCE.

and, please. only thank when appropriate. not to boost idiots egos.
  • thanks for your replies, sounds a bit daunting to have to go to the IR,does anyone know what sort of info i would have to give.all i could really tell them is the addresses of the window cleaning calls he does and the names of his employees.as it was mostly cash nothing really went in the bank.all bills were paid from my own account and he would give me the cash every week.hes never kept any kind of record of the property work, sounds like i dont have much to go on now.its just really annoying me that he can get away with this.

I'd try and work with him not against him to assist with financial contribution, with his family setup as you describe, I wouldn't think you would get that great amount, but every penny helps, I'm surprised none of the 'gang' have offered much in the way of sanctions that the csa/cmec can impose to get him :o
    Good luck for 2010.

Just report to the HMRC that you suspect he is evading tax (jesus, they can't stand people like that!!) and give as much info as you can. It can be done anon if you so wish.

Speedster is right..the CSA aren't interested in tax/benefit fraud but the HMRC are and have more powers than the CSA.

The best you can hope for is that it flushes him out and he either goes legit or signs on and then the CSA will start to take an interest.

You can do it online or you can do it over the phone...just google HMRC tax evasion and all the stuff should come up

I totally sympathise! (not sure is thats spelt right!) My ex is the same. Although hes never contributed to my Daughter and chooses not to see her either. Talk to the HMRC. Have you messed around with google for him? i found my ex's new car, reg, home address, phone numbers, business contacts etc... all on google so phoned it all in. They can give you an address and phone number too so you can post in any evidence you have.

As for CS i'd count on nothing and be pleasantly surprised if anything even turns up!
