Do you need a current account with them for that? It looks that way on the application form.

No, you don't need to open a current account with Ipswich BS to open this account.

  • Kazza is right.

The only other Ipswich account you will get is the one they transfer your money into on the account's maturity.

    Hi,
good article, but I think there is the need to clarify one very important point for many of us. I would not transfer my main current account to lloyds, but am ready to stick a few pounds there to keep the regular savings alive.

    In your article you say:

    while Lloyds says:
    http://www.lloydstsb.com/legal/savings_legal/monthly_saver_inportant_information.asp

Can anyone clarify this? What would be necessary to have the "Lloyds TSB current account" qualify as main account?
I went into my local Lloyds bank to set up a regular savers account and was told the direct debit had to come from a Lloyds current account and that at least five hundred pounds a month had to be payed into the account.

That is patently incorrect nonsense, that I can only put down to poor staff training.

This thread has unfortunately become a bit long and unwieldy, but to cut to the chase

    1) You do have to have a LTSB current account.
    2) You do not have to fund that current account with a monthly minimum.
    3) You do not have to fund the Saver from that current account.

I can only suggest that you refer the branch staff to their HO, and recommend that they familiarise themselves with their own products!

Already have an Alliance and Leicester current account so I am not allowed to use the regular saver!!!
If you read the T&C it states only for people who do not currently have an Alliance and Leicester current account....Grrrrrrrrrrrr:mad:

Is this still correct? I have a current a/c meantime. Am I excluded?

Yes, pepperjulie is correct. The A&L 12% regular saver is only available to new Premier current account holders. Existing Premier current account holders cannot open the account.

Might sound like a rather daft question, but I honestly don't know...

Had a look at the proof of identity part for opening an account at Ipswich BS, and it asks for a "photocopy of valid full UK Passport". Now, I'm not British and have never had an account with a building society here, they do accept foreign passports, right?
