    Start of Classic Plus account:

    "Before you start

You’ll need to be able to confirm all of the statements below. If you can’t, call us on 0800 085 9174 or contact any Lloyds TSB branch to talk through your account options.

    * I do not have a current account with Lloyds TSB,
    * I am aged 18 or over,
    * The account is for my own use only and won’t be used for business,
    * I will pay £1000 or more into my account each month,
    * I will use Internet banking."

How can we just pay in £1 etc ?
  • I felt that this was too good to be true - went into Lloyds Bank and asked for form to open Monthly Saver A/c - told had to open current account with my salary paid into it each month. Queried this and was advised by account manager that this was correct. Subsequently telephoned Lloyds phone line and put case to them - now had call from my Lloyds branch 'new accounts manager' who says that you have to open new account as well as Monthly Saver a/c and although you do not have to have your salary paid into it, payments on standing order have to come from this to go to Monthly Saver. He checked with his area manager and payments cannot come from outside bank.

Not in my branch though - as long as 1000+ are paid in (whether your salary, or just from another of your own current accounts) it doesn't matter (I opened the Regular Saver this morning - swift service, all done and set up in half an hour). If you pay in less than 1000 a month, you can open a different sort of current account which doesn't pay the 4% rate, but this may still be worth considering. And to another earlier question - no, no more 50 quid present for opening the account.

By opening a Classic current account, rather than the Classic Plus. ;)

(I should know, I've done it.)
  • Hi! Concerning the HSBC Regular Saver Account paying 8% p.a., I agree that when the year expires your savings will be transferred to a low interest account (the same as the Halifax 7% R.S. Account, in which case draw it out on expiry), but not if you transfer to an HSBC ISA, which appears to be a reasonable deal. Any comments, please?

    Hi,

    Good Question!

We checked this out with Lloyds directly, and this was their answer

    Hope this helps.

    Dan

The "current account for £1" refers to the Classic rather than Classic+ account - the latter does require £1000/month pay-in.

(Added after orig post:) Sorry missed the earlier posts that have already covered this.

On a cash ISA you can only have max 3k pounds a year. So if you only use the regular savings and don't save anything else the transfer might be possible (but do it before 5 April 2007). If you save on ISA and also on regular savings you can only trasfer to your ISA up to your max 3k investement a year.
