Would Cancelling Sky Affect Our Digital Channels?

Options
As the monthly sub of our Sky package is going up in January to £46.00, we are contemplating cancelling Sky as we can no longer afford to keep up with this. However, we are a little concerned as to how this cancellation might affect our ability to get digital channels. We have the Sky box, so would we need to tamper with that in anyway to ensure we don't lose the main channels?

By the way, we do have a Freeview Box which is unused, so how could we tune this in to our Skyless TV?

If you cancel, you still get the free channels.

A freeview box needs a normal aerial. A freesat box would work from your dish. That would just need plugging in, but no need, as your skybox will do it.
  • Try removing your viewing card, and seeing what channels you can still view. You will still get the main 5, plus others including the annoying shopping channels.
    Oh what's the bloody point...?

I cancelled sky sometime ago and continued to get all the free channels but now my card is expiring and if I don’t pay sky £20 for a new one I will lose Five, Five USA and Sky3 which are all on freeview I believe. I will also lose my local ITV station Meridian but will still get London ITV. I think Sky are sending or have sent out new cards to existing subscribers. My existing card worked for at least 5 years so it might be worth waiting until you get your new card before cancelling.

But that would cost a minimum of £46 whereas the most he would have to pay Sky for a card is £20.

As above, just pull out the card and see if you're happy with what you have left.

FIVE and your regional ITV can be added in manually if required.

Remember also that if you have Sky+, you'll lose the recording facilities of the box and lose access to any recordings you have on it.

If you already have a new white card, don't let Sky try and get another £20 out of you. The white card should revert to a FreesatFromSky card.

We cancelled our sky package in April and went onto the freeview channels. In early December we were getting the message that we needed a new card so we called sky who said we had to pay £20 for the new card as we were now on free to view.

I thought about this and rang back and asked if there were any offers for me to come back to sky, they then offered me any package for half price for a year with only a rolling month contract (I dont have to sign for a year, I can give a months notice to stop it)

So we have family package for £11.50... and as we are now sky customers we got a new card new card :D. So if we keep it for 2 months and then cancel and go back to freeview we in effect have had sky for free over xmas, if you get my drift.

    .

Does that apply to Meridian. I don't lose Five and am not sure Fiver and Five USA are worth £20

Only certain regions lose FIVE and their ITV region. If you keep them, all the better. :)

    11.50? isn't it 17.50 for one package?
