What to replace Canon printer with?

Just did all the cleanings it would do and still the same, smudges about 6 characters in, vertically down the sheet. How do I clean rollers please?
As more pages are coming out of the printer, do the smudges look like they are getting lighter? Any ink which has stained the rollers should eventually wear off, thus making it lighter the more you print.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -
first sheet and in fact all sheets unmarked (printing a blank sheet that is)Taffybiker wrote: »The easiest way (it sometimes works) is to feed several blank sheets of paper through the printer. If the first sheet comes out unmarked, then this won't help.0 -
just did a print run, no the smudges not getting lighter. Any ideas?Money_Grabber13579 wrote: »As more pages are coming out of the printer, do the smudges look like they are getting lighter? It would seem the problem is not on the roller, or there would have been marks on the blank sheets. That leaves only the print head (which would be changed with a new ink cartridge) or ink has somehow found its way into the printing path.
Try removing the cartridge and physically cleaning anything inside that you can reach. Look at the nozzles on the end of the cartridge. If you can see damage, then a new one should clear your problem - but it is not always possible to see the damage.
The only other thing I can think of is that the ribbon may have caused part of the print path to become dislodged so the heads are spraying ink at the wrong distance, thereby causing the smudging - in this case a new printer would be in order.Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0 -

The print head in the Canon 6xx series printers is separate - not part of the ink cartridge.
It may be worth removing the cartridges and then lifting out the print head - on my 610 you just need to lift up the lever to the right of where the cartridges are installed and it should just lift out, and a 600 should be similar. You can then inspect it and the paper path underneath it for debris, but try to avoid touching the head itself.0 -

A piece of your dairy ribbon is still lurking near the RH margin, 6 characters in.0

Thanks to you all - tried everything and still smeared. Looks like an MP560 replacement - any comments?0
