Doesn't your college son have any friends who would help with removals, knowing you have a bad back? Carpets make life more comfortable but they aren't essential - look on Freecycle or Gumtree for offcuts that you could use as rugs. Again curtains are only really necessary in bedrooms: don't you have anything at the current house you could use? Otherwise Freecycle or Gumtree.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Ask council to help with removal costs. Many will have removal teams somewhere hidden in the wage bills of some department or other (education always used to) and ask what help they can offer.0

When i did voluntary work for victim support the police use to get their trainees to help people who were having problems.
I remember one old lady i visited was getting hassled by local yobs, The station sargeant got onto the police training school sent a group of hefty ooppers-to-be out and fixed up her house because she had no one to help her.
If you've already been in touch with the police as a witness maybe they can help return the favour.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

Some councils have furnoture, etc., on a recycling scheme which can help you if you need stuff. Try them first.
