haggling at John Lewis

I'd have thought with what happened to Globespan with regards to the lack of money being paid to them by the merchant who processed the transaction that cash might become more in favour with retailers. Even with the cost of processing it... they at least have their hands on it.0

I bought an AppleMac in 2009 and offered cash as against credit card and it was reduced by £500

LOL! In summary I think the answer is sometimes if you ask the right person in a pleasant way after talking to them a bit.Green and minimal chemicals is the new black- I know a fair old bit about sustainability, specially energy and transport stuff. If I can help- please ask!0

I managed to get through the crowds at my local John Lewis. I wanted to buy a dishwasher . I asked the sales lady what deal she could offer as I was paying with cash She looked at me as though she's stepped in something unpleasant and told me John Lewis never do offers like that. I said I'd read about it on this site, but she told me I was wrong. So I went to Currys instead!
We went to Currys and asked them to price match a HD Camcorder that we saw in JL. Not only did they do it, but we got a £50 cashback form with the model, they threw in a camera bag and discounted a memory card.:T0 -
When I worked at Dixons as a SA I had 5% discount to use to clinch a sale/sell a warrenty, I could then ask the manager for more if the sale was worth it.AKA: PC

I have received discounts at almost every place at various times over the last 20 years. One poster is right, if you don't ask you don't get.
Often, you can get warranties extended or price matched. That is easy. However, if you are straight up about what you want, say a certain washing machine and it is £429 and you say you can only go to £400, then they would be daft to refuse your sale. Asking for £300 is not going to give you results but these stores are not working on 10% mark ups you know.
If you go to MicroAnvika, you can actually see their mark up !0
