Hi,
essentially here is what has happened so far.....
I sold a phone on ebay for Approx £100 and received payment through paypal and sent the item off. My first mistake was to send it normal post rather than recorded.
I heard nothing for about 2 weeks until the buyer claimed he never recieved the item. I tried to keep up good communication but I got the impression he had recieved the phone and was jsut trying to get back the cash too.
Shortly after seeling the phone I had closed down the payapl account and started to use my wifes.
Now I am recieving letters from a debt collectiona gency called NCO trying to get the money back and now a card telling me they are sending someone to call around. Myself and especially my wife are very worried. How can I comabt this? Will I have ot pay the money even though I have done nothing wrong??? Surely this cannot be right??

Have you heard anything from paypal in the interim.
Even if you closed down the account I would have expected them to contact you by email to tell you there was a problem, what they'd decided, and that they wanted the money.
Can you have the phone blocked, as it appears to have been stolen?0 -

What a hypocrite!!! You're telling the OP to "Pay up you owe paypal the money" when you yourself admit you owe them £400.

Hi,
paypal contacted me saying there was a problem and to log into my account to to resolve it. However, as the account was closed this was impossible. I have tried many times to contact them but am getting shunted from one person to the next.
Yes, I cancelled the phone straight away!0 -
I think on this one you will have to pay up and learn a valuable lesson. do you have a reciept for posting you maybe able to claim upto £350

I am going to sound harsh here but please don't take it as having a go.
The rules of PayPal say all items must be sent by tackable means (many of us decide to run the risk of not doing that on low value items) so this was your major mistake.
Whether or not the guy is at it (very possibly is) you do not know. You have since closed down the PayPal account, why? If you don't want a black mark on your credit rating it might be best to just pay it...as you say yourself its worrying you.
You really are in the wrong here and the simplest way to sort it out is stump up the money and learn an expensive lesson.0 -
For further information about how to deal with debt collection agencies, you might want to wander over to the debt free board, where there a lot of people who can give you an idea of how to procede.
As you yourself seem to admit, you do owe this money, in part because you didn't follow paypal procedures, but there are things that NCO can and cannot do, and the other board can give you an idea of how to handle them.0 -

So because they haven't contacted you, thats ok then is it? Maybe you don't have a conscience but I certainly wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing I owe someone that amount of money, I'd be waiting for a knock on the door.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. Jakemuk. Please don't use foul language, if you don't have the intelligence to think of another word then don't post at all.Wildly my mind beats against you, yet the soul obeys. :heartpuls
