If you want to go ahead and spend £250-£300 on a TV which will only show 720p (or overscan 1080p) then be my guest.
If you put next to each other a blu-ray, one at 720p and one at 1080p, they will look very, very different.
on a 42" stood about 3 feet away, you are probably right.0 -

Possibly, however, showing 1080p on a 720p TV means overscan which obviously reduces the quality. Not only that, you're not watching the HD source properly. The smaller the monkey the more it looks like it would kill you at the first given opportunity.

All well and good, however neither of the main games consoles, nor Sky HD or other HD sources, actually broadcast in 1080p.
1080p can also negatively impact on SD picture quality, especially on cheaper sets such as this.
The irony is that many people are replacing their CRTs with cheap LCDs such as this, when they actually deliver superior picture quality for "normal" viewing....0 -
Can someone call the telly snob police please.
!!!!!! it's a biggish telly for under £200, enabling some without the means to have a biggish telly to maybe have one. Get over it.
On a seperate note, I have a 32" Sony CRT, 6 years old and in perfect working order if anyone in the Glasgow area wants to take it off my hands for free?Come ride with me, through the veins of history...

You folks are P obsessed.
Personally, I would prefer to pay a little bit more in the initial purchase price to pick up a package that presents a purer and more reliable picture to me.
Some supa markets are prepared to strategically position a product at the perfect price point for the majority of the populas, even though as soon as you plug it in it'll probably go....
When that happens, be prepared to be pizzed off and possibly without your tv for a period of time. Oh yea, you'll have produce your purchase receipt before they attempt to appease you. Exactly.
Personally I'd rather go to John Lewis or Richer Sounds and have a quality brand with a 5 year warranty and sit back not have to worry about it blowing up or failing etc.0 -
I have the Technika 32" and a Samsung 42". The picture quality of the Samsung (which cost £700 compared to £200 for the Technika) is FRACTIONALLY better. The sound of the Samsung is also slightly better.
However the sound level of the Samsung is pants (as many have commented about previously. The speakers are simply too small for a decent sized room, the 32" Technika is far louder. The TV guide on the Samsung is horrifically slow, but brilliant on the Technika. Switching channels on the Technika is faster than the Samsung. Switching sources on the Technika on the Technika is faster than the Samsung. The Samsung has a bug, causing the TV guide to sometimes take 10 seconds to move up and down the list !!!
My conclusion - Don't buy a name - Technika is actually better than Samsung !!!! I personally will NEVER buy Samsung again.0
