SPECS cameras on motorways

average speed cameras dont flash - they check on the time it takes for you to travel between one camera to the next and work out your average speed between the sites - or series of sites.Don't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig0

AFAIK they flash at every car passing them if they need to, using ANPR to log the registration so it can be checked at later cameras (they work based on time, not speed)0

SPECS cameras don't flash. They use IR lamps to illuminate the area below them. They are usually mounted on yellow posts at the roadside. They can catch anyone in the area they are monitoring, early models could be fooled by changing lane, but newer models have been improved to offset this.
Are you sure the flash wasn't a reflection of the lamps.Fight Crime : Shoot Back.

Learn about all the different types, how they work, which ones flash etc. etc.0 -
So these cameras don't flash but as in other posts have said that it is the reflection of the lenses as you pass the specs yellow camera thinking that it flashed at you.
Is this correct?
Also when these cameras were installed it was later noted that speed checks could be avoided by changing lane. has this be fixed now?0 -

Read reply #40 -
Specs 1 - Can be confused by lane changing
Specs 2 - Fixed this problem
Specs 3 - Same as specs 2 but cameras do not require connecting wires resulting in lower install costs
Specs cameras do not flash and do work in the dark using infrared technology.
Speed cameras on the M25/M20/M42 are not average speed but do flash from behind.0
