I want another sky+ box

Options
I am with Sky and have a Sky+ box and a Sky+HD box, with a multiroom subscription. My son has decided to get Sky in his bedroom now and wants a Sky+ box. I've phoned Sky twice and each time was told that, because I already had the Sky+ and HD boxes, they would not discount another of these boxes. They want £199 for the Sky+ or the HD box plus £60 installation. They've offered a Sky box for £49 + £60.

Son is not too keen on the Sky box but doesn't want to pay £259 for a Sky+ box (well, he's only 13). I'm sure I've read somewhere that even if I threaten to cancel and go to Virgin they still wont discount the Sky+ box. I'm running out of ideas - if anyone can think of a way to get the Sky+ box cheaper I'd be very grateful.

That's correct, you are limeted by the number of discounted boxes you have, the LNB will also need to be changed & they, when I worked for Sky,were the guts of £40 each, then you have the cabling & manhours for the work.
Sky's EU base is so large they dont care if they loose you.The refusal of the offer will be logged on your Sky account by the operator you spoke to & that is what they'll go on.
    Nothing you can do.
  • Buy a box from ebay?
    Oh what's the bloody point...?

I know my quad LNB will need to be replaced with an octo LNB. Does the £60 installation charge include the replacement LNB or is that additional? I see that octo LNBs can be had on ebay for £15.

The ebay ones are advertised as upgrades to your current Sky box - I'm guessing that this is because they don't come with a Sky card. Would Sky give me a card to use with a box purchased on ebay?

It would be inclueded in the installation charge so no extra.

Hmmmmm..... so ebay may be my best bet. Sky+ box for around £100, octo LNB for £15. I guess I'd need to get my own installer - perhaps £60 or so? Am I thinking along the right lines.....total cost, as above, around £175 plus £10 per month for additional multiroom subscription.
