I'm going to start this up again, haven't done it for months.

Gonna start off nice and easy with 9 NSDs for me. I'm trying to pay off my overdraft - well now my family who lent me the money to pay it off to avoid charges, so I want to get it back to them asap.

Hey BigMummaF, I love you and I love this thread and I love everyone on it (I've been drinking wine) but no really BigMummaF you are grrrrrrreat (said tony the tiger stylie), not only have you inspired us but you also motivate us and make us smile - what a wonderful gift. And you've brought a bunch of strangers together.

We all have our different reasons for doing the challenge, some to help get out of debt, others to manage tight budgets, some to save up.....I guess I do it for a mix of all three but also and more importantly to me I like to have control of my money - I don't want to feel like my budget controls me. If I don't watch my pennies then who else will? So a big thumb-to-nose to all those in my past that have laughed at my frugalness (frugality?, frugalivity?, frugalvolity?, frugalbility?, frugalbrugal?) - because the confidence and security you gain from managing your own money and budgeting well is a far bigger thrill than having a better car or dressing in designer gear you've bought on credit. So there. And now I guess I'd better sober up before I go to bed!

I love the fact I've found like minded people and that I don't have to apologise for not wanting to spend all my cash willy-nilly (although I will apologise fir rambling). This challenge of BigMummaF's is yet another tool which aids me in my bugeting and overall financial objectives - so thank you :D

Okay okay I'm shutting up and going to bed
  • Oh yes and what I really meant to say was 'can I renew for this month please?'
  • Thanks for this month's thread BigMummaF. With a successful December under my belt, I'm going to push the boat out and pledge 18 NSDs for January - thank you!

This is one New Years Resolution I am happy to renew; I love this Challenge & have even more reason to continue through 2010. I'm hoping to save enough by April to visit rellies almost a thousand miles away, so I'm makng a start by trying to avoid the lure of the Sales for as long as possible mixed-smiley-044.gifWish me luck :o

    Good luck!

If I don't watch my pennies then who else will? Exactly! I must point out tho, that I am not the instigator of this Challenge; I just begin the monthly thread until someone else wants a turn, & it is all you lovely people who actually keep the Challenge going :D but Thank You all the same.x

  • BigMummaF, you may not be the instigator of the challenge, but starting the monthly thread is a great way to keep it going.

Can you put me down for 12 NSDs please?

I'm going to be organised regarding the children's snack money at school this year. I've bought some little envelopes for my son who has special needs and I'm going to spend half an hour labelling them with his name and class, and putting the snack money in, £1 a week for the full term (so it's like one bigger spend rather than lots of little spends - it will stop me forgetting as well!). My other son takes his snack money daily, so whenever I have some 20p pieces I put them into the car. I'll do this once a week now, on a day that I am spending anyway, so that it classes as a spend just once and not five days a week! I did this during December and it worked well. It also meant that he didn't forget his snack money.

I'm also going to check my DDs and make sure that they are all still valid. Once I've worked out how much they are each month, I'm going to add a little on and leave just that amount in the account. The rest is going to be moved across to my credit union account (unless anyone can suggest a better account than that?)

I have a friend who can refurbish my kitchen and bathroom relatively inexpensively - both are in dire need! - and I already have the money saved for that. I've also got the money for my sons' room to be redecorated and have new cabin beds (thanks to the CSA catching up with my ex!). I might save on one bed, though, as my older son is due to be assessed by Occupational Therapy for a bed that rises at the top end, which he needs because of his disabilities.

So as well as the NSDs, I'm hoping to save some cash and make some improvements around our home. Ambitious or what!

    Wish me luck!
