  • The problem is that the lack of credit means many of the procrascinators cannot buy.

Also the fact that house prices have risen is a fact, but that they will rise by 15% is merely a forecast that may or may nor prove true. It would be interesting to see what these forecasters were saying two or three years ago!

Based on the sales recored in zoopla, ourproperty etc, the average house price in my county went up by 16% between first half of 2009 and second (based on 4 mths to October).

One look at the distribution of sales tells us why - sales at £200k and below are down, sales in the £300k - £1mill range are up, over double what they were in the first six months (and bear in mind second half figures are only based on four months.....).

Regardless of whether or not individual prices are up or down, this distribution drags the average up.

What are the quoted figures from the OP based on? Averages?

Property has risen this year yes - but there is a big black cloud on the way in the raising of vat in the new year and the re-imposition of stamp duty - these two measures alone will knock the housing market back to where it was in jan 2009
  • so which estate agent do you work for betty? hope you get paid well it must be a crap job having to go round telling lies all day and post them on forums as well:rotfl:

However, the combination of record low interest rates and a series of Government programmes to support homeowners have helped prices to turn around far quicker than expected.

Yes, interest rates will go lower and the government will continue to borrow to pay the mortgages of those that lose their jobs!

Yeah, house prices going up is such a good idea.

Unaffordable housing is just what this country needs.

Wealth built on debt is such a fantastic way of running the country.

Don't worry, he/she posted it on there too.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
  • I cant imagine how house prices will rise significantly in the next 6 months, as houses are still unaffordable for first time and less well-off buyers, especially with current mortgage rates being relatively high. Wealthy buyers might stimulate demand for very high value house values in the near future - possibly leading to these being the first to recover from the downturn

They have gone up round my way and have been doing so all year. End of the day property always goes up. I dunno why people are so surprised by it.

Interest rates are low and banks are lending again - contrary to what some of the folk on here say.

I can't understand why people get upset about house prices anyway. If they don't wanna buy as they claim, then what does it matter to them how much they cost? Never understood that! A bit of sour grapes if you ask me. People always get jealous and green with envy to think someon'es been fortunate enough, or worked hard enough to get their foot on the ladder, land on their feet, and end up with an asset i.e. their own home worth hundreds of thousands.
