No not really and we didn’t need something’s that are considered essentials now.
To quote your own earlier post back at you, ukcarper, these days they're not very expensive.Yes wage inflation did make your payment easier but we mustn’t forget the high interest rates although to be fair I must mention mortgage tax relief. But then a 20in TV did cost you 2 months wages instead of the 2 days it would cost you now.
Plus there are some things that were were luxuries then but are essentials now, like computers - very hard to function, workwise, without one now.0 -

OMG Do I do my very old person impersonation? 90+. Does anyone else remember their Grandmothers telling them about the days without fridges?. I cannot imagine it. My DD even less.....she now insists we put the Jam in it.0 -

Did have second hand fridge but who now would be happy with no phone, no Tele, no freezer not to mention PC. I wouldn’t but times were different then and that’s why making comparisons with doesn’t make sense.0 -
