Loss of power.....

  • EGR valve clogged up?
  • Incorrect mixture leading to unburnt fuel, almost always intake related.

MAF/MAS is normally the culprit. A dirty air filter won't have that much of an effect.

a blocked one will. i once found some blue paper stuck in the intake hose after the air filter causing this problem.
its highly unlikely but does happen, and no harm in checking.

  • Mazda 6 Diesels have a history of problems revolving around the DPF and regeneration.

If you look up Honestjohn's backroom you will find many threads with hundreds of posts about this problem, not saying thats necessarily the problem with your car, but you would be a lot more informed if you did a search on there and read through.
    Be warned it's worrying reading.

    .

That's not limited to Mazdas. most of the modern diesel engines suffer the same.

Short journeys will clog the DPF, the car needs a good blast down a motorway regularly so the car can conduct it's own DPF Regen (only happens when car is up to temp and revs are high enough, for long enough ==== motorway)

Harvey's favourite Saabs are very prone to this.

Agreed and most owners don't realise this, but Saabs and most others don't fill their sumps with excess injected fuel which is one of the many tricks Mazda 6 Diesels get up to.

Don't ya just love all this modern hi tech stuff, me i avoid it like the plague.

None of the above if regularly serviced.

It needs a damned good thrashing as its basically coked up from pottering around. Drive down the road in a low gear with your foot hard down right on the limiter. You'll need to do it for several hundred yards and it can be a bit frightening for the uninitiated. There'll be the most unholy amount of muck that comes out the first few hundred yards or more and then it'll clear up.
