Hi Cookiedough, my friend and I did about 12 months of holding jewellery parties with family and friends, but it was about 3 years ago and then life kind of got in the way!
Bag charms, bookmarks & wine glass charms always did well, especially coming up to Christmas. We had jewellery sets - matching earrings/necklace/bracelet - and then individual items too. We always took our kit with us so that if any items needed adjusting we could do it there and then.
We would also raffle off an item or set of jewellery too.
I used to make little tags to say what beads had been used in each item.

    Good Luck

I have made some bookmarks so hopefully they will sell well, I was planning on taking my kit so that I can make some bits and pieces if it goes quiet. I shall fill you in on how I get on

Hi everyone! Just a quick post to say that I'm doing a wirework course on sat 4th December and there are still a few spaces available if anyone's interested. It's in Nuneaton, it's on 2 hours 10am til 12pm, the cost is £10 (Inc cups of tea and basic materials and use of tools). It's being taught by Louisa moss of beadelicious, she's lovely.
I know myself that it's hard to find workshops around the Warks/west mids area and a lot are booked up in the Xmas run up.
Heres a link to the website for the contact details and workshop info (nb- the dec 4th date is available even though it's not listed)
There are also beads for sale on there and info about open sessions where you can go along and buy some beads and make things :)

    Hi Everyone

I want to start making jewelery but I am getting myself all confused with where to start and what I need to buy

Can anyone recommend a good beginners book please? I bought a jewelery making magazine but it was far to advanced for a complete novice like me

    Thanks

check out u tube for jewellery making tutorials I especially like the ones by Aunties beads they are done so well and easy to follow. personally I am finding the diagrams for beading really difficult to follow compaired to the u tube tutorials
I have just started out, I planned to make a certain cascade earring then I couldnt find the components in the uk, while I was waiting for them to arrive from Hong Kong I used up the bicones I had got for the earrings doing a seed bead bracelet I found on U tube and never intended to do seed beading! then after I used the bicone beads up the other components arrived from Hong Kong now in catch 22 Every time I get supplies in I am waiting for something else to arrive!
I would suggest watching any tutorials you can and then get the bits in for that and get decent supplies I have had head pins from 3 different sellers on e bay that are more likely to break the pliers than to bend to a nice circle.
I think I am going to now get into the seed beading, never realised those tiny beads could look so wonderful! so bascially everything I have been buying over the last few weeks will probably not get used lol!
Right now I wish I had a HUGE box full of different beads so I could actually get some stuff made

hi evreyone, i've just read this thread and was wondering whether any of you woudl recommend a beginners course in jewellery making or do you think a book would be enough? There is a full day course in the new year I was thinking of going on but I don't know how basic it will be. I would reall like to start making some jewellery for myself but don't know the best way to start.
Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we're here we should dance....

I haven't posted anything on this thread for ages so I thought I'd share these. They're made using antique brass findings, and vintage blue stones which are a gorgeous colour. Keep making everyone :).

  • Ive bought some bead mixes off jillybeads for making memory wire bracelets but wondered if anyone could suggest anywhere else? are they the cheapest place to go.Tried ebay but cant seem to find the mixes with everything in? want to make alot and was thinking if I got higher quantities it will be cheaper than buying the 1 bracelet mix bags? but anyone got any suggestions?

To the newbies asking about books/courses....I tried going from a book but took a beginners course which really made it all make sense as someones showing you each technique. You tube is good too as you can see someone making things. For starter kits either find a local shop or ebay was my first call - I just got one of the basic kits as you will find you 'like' making certain things.I started with the memory wire bracelets and moved on and just rediscovered them as they are easy to make and nice pressies for christmas!
