Mobile Broadband Booster?

A neighbour has just asked me a question about mobile broadband, but being solely a landline ADSL user, I couldn't answer it. I wonder if anyone here can help please.
She has bought her young daughter a computer for Christmas along with a mobile account with O2 for mobile broadband access. The problem they are having is that they cannot get a strong enough signal on the USB modem in their flat and have to open a window and dangle the dongle :rotfl: outside. With the USB modem out in the open they get a consistent enough signal, but having to leave a window open in cold winter weather is far from ideal.
She wanted to know if there is any device available that would boost the available signal to the mobile O2 modem inside the flat. Anyone know if that's possible please?
Dave.

Thanks Spike, that's a useful link. We are in flats here that do have very thick concrete walls, so not too surprising that she's having problems with the signal. That said, an antenna such as one of these could make a difference. I'll pass that info on to her.

Height makes a huge difference too.
I hang my dongle high in the window at its fine.
Try using the dongle in front of another window to see if signal improves.0
