Best advice is never to shop in Argos. The place is bloody awful, as Jimmy Carr says, it's no coincidence that the set-up involves taking a ticket and waiting in a row of plastic chairs for a sour-faced assistant at the counter to call you up....it's done to resemble the Jobscentre so the average Argos customer feels at home.

If I were you I'd just phone Head Office and raise a big stink. In general you'll find a Head Office will over-rule a local store in order to keep a customer happy.

Never had a problem returning things to Argos, even when they are excluded. Call HO, explain the situation and I am sure you will get at least vouchers.

When I have returned geniune faulty items to Argos (digital camera's, hair straighteners's etc) they have never checked to see if they were faulty. They either gave me a refund or exchange but once the 16 day money back guarantee (I think they have now changed it to 30 days?) is up they send the item away for repair.

I doubt you will get a refund or exchange at any Argos store unless the item was actually faulty. The reason they don't accept returns on these items is probably because there is alot of fakes. Someone could purchase a fake DS Lite from Ebay or while abroad and then return it to Argos in the geunine items packaging then some unlucky customer ends up puchasing the fake item from Argos.

If the item is still brand new and sealed you will probably get near enough what you paid if you were to list it on Ebay.

The obvious flaw with this though is that they will just replace the item like for like..so how exactly does that help

All that lying just to end up in exactly the same situation.

  • They wont just replace it. If you say it's faulty you can ask for a refund.
They used to, but in my experience haven't bothered for well over a year, send items over 30 days old that were faulty off for repair. That would take up to 3 weeks.
But any items I've returned in the past year have been exchanged or refunded how I want.

i have to agree i would take it back saying its faulty, as its christmas you needed another one sharpish so purchased another DS from another retailer and you like a cash refund or vouchers to the exact value at the very least
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.
  • Take the one back with the receipt saying its faulty and no longer want it.

I bought a free view box with recorder, and returned it after 2 weeks because it was slow and rubbish, told them it was faulty!
