Halfords have a audio unit with Mp3 for £60 which includes free fitting and I am after a cheapy unit to go in my car that can play via an MP3 player.

I just did a check of extra bits I needed for my car and it needs a plastic facia, and 2 small brackets. Halfords want £36 for the pair.

Have seen the same parts (with identical part numbers) in several places online for as low as £7 inc delivery.

Has anyone else ordered these elsewhere and got Halfords to fit the stereo.

I dont want to start a 'I wouldnt trust those monkeys with a bag of peanuts debate' but wondered if anyone else had any experience of this.

Cheers

  • Halfords will fit your product but they'll charge you. Might as well get the stereo and take it to a car audio specialist who should fit it for a flat fee around £20.
  • I wouldn't trust Halfords to fit as much as a sticker to my car. Might be easier to just do it yourself.

Buy the parts as cheaply as you can and then avail of their free fitting offer. I cant see why they would object.

Also, theres really nothing to fitting modern stereos, but saying as its free i'd let them do it.

If you'd read the original post - its FREE fitting.

Its that easy to do i'd doubt even a halfords monkey could fail to do it right. If the o/p has no experience in this area it might be easier to 'sit in' as they do it for future reference.

I think you'll find free fitting is only for parts purchased in Halfords.
This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !

Fitting of the stereo is free.
Its just the plastic facia and securing bracket that I am buying elsewhere.

As previous posters have said not a problem to fit it myself but if its free then let them do it.

Asked in the shop and they said would only take 15 minutes.

I didnt ask about the other bits as they could ready be in the car and they didnt try and sell up when I bought the stereo.

Will put the bits in the bag with the radio and the ipod cable and should all be fine.

    Thanks for the answers.

I think you'll find the O/P is buying the stereo from halfords

During the FREE fitting, clipping a plastic surround in wont impact that.

No, its free fitting of the product you've bought from Halfords. The OP was planning on buying the fascia and the brackets elsewhere so unless the OP fits them themselves, there's likely to be a charge.

If you go on a an owners club website (pretty much every make/ model will have them) they will have guides or will tell you how to fit a stereo to your car.

It gives a great sense of satisfaction doing it yourself, and if you're anything like me, you'll be changing the oil in no time as well :D
