Home Bargain refused my ID

I always carry ID because I always get asked - so I hand my provisional licence over, and get told that they don't accept them as official ID??

I emailed them to complain, and got a reply back from Joe Morris saying that 'all of our stores accept it as a valid form of ID' and they will have to do 'extra training' in that store. Tempted to print it out and go hand it in. I only wanted a bottle of Ginger Wine for my mum!

That's wierd...they definitely should have accepted it. The store obv aren't training their staff properly!
  • Provisional licenses are getting a bit strange, I'm afraid.

I tried to use mine in HSBC but they refused, printing me a document stating that they no longer accept them as ID as they are easily copied. I had to go home and find my passport, which was a pain.

It's been refused a few times in pubs now, too. It's very annoying!

When I worked at Home Bargains (5 years ago) we accepted provisionals, same at Asda and at the cinema I work at.

I find that usually it's ok for buying age restricted products, but for things like bank accounts you can't use it.

Maybe you just had a new staff member when you shopped there who had never seen it before?

Provisional driving Licenses are not an acceptable for of ID as covered by the licensing act that came in in 2005. If they wanted to get funny then a full driving license is only acceptable proof of ID if both parts are provided, that means you would have to carry the paper section round. Passports are acceptable as are certain Prove It Cards.

When I did my training for my personal license for the new act I was shocked that you couldn't accept provisional and it was explained that they do not do the full ID checks until you have passed you test.
