  • Oh Ive been thinking how I would love to do these for a gift! Never thought it was that easy!!! Im going to keep an eye out for some vinyl records now that I can use! I really struggle to make gifts for men for christmas so think this could be perfect!

They look great and are really cheap and easy, just hard to wrap.
There is not much call for records in charity shops these days so it is worth having a good rummage and asking if they want you to take a few off their hands at once. My local charity shop has singles for 10p and 20p for full records, they don't even need to work! :D

chasing sunshine -welcome to the thread and well done on reading through it all -that must have taken some doing............lol:j

I checked my christmas stash this morning and don't think I've anything much left to make apart from tubs of snowballs etc, and I'm scratching my head what to do for my grandson who's 18 this christmas (apart from the record bowl)
I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

Thanks for the tip I will keep my eye out. I think I remember seeing that the small ones were on sale for 4 for 99p in a charity shop. I do like to go to car boot sales too though, so will keep an eye out there too!

I got my fil coasters made from records last year (which were extortinately prices but hes so hard to buy for) and they had labels on from rock groups (metallica, ACDC etc) so I think I am going to have a look out for a record by these guys for his.

I think I will make one for my uncle too as he love vinyls. Would love to get something appropriate to his tastes again so will have to ask my cousins what hes in to!

Did you use the large vinyls or the smaller ones? (Sorry Im not very up on vinyls, abit before my time I think hahaha)

Its got me thinking now what other things I could shape them into hahaha

:Tnorthlondonchick, thats fantastic thank you. i`m off out today so will look for some albums...and will check out the murder mystery idea later..

Chasingsunshine welcome :D must have taken some doing reading the whole thread......Pots of snow are toffee bonbons the white ones, either in cello bag with a verse, in a jar, jam jar or 4 for a £1 in pond shop or in my case a little box with averse attached, I think the verses are on here, mary op put a short one on and princesspoppy put alonger one on, they saved on my other laptop so havent got them to hand...

Also reindeer food is along the same principle if you have little ones to leave out for reindeers xmas eve with oats and glitter. With a rhyme attached...:) which i have saved on other machine....and "jars of nothing" for them who have everything......:rotfl::rotfl:

Mary sorry about your son splitting up with his girlfiend:o , my twins are also 18 next month so when I get my ideas together, i`ll put them on, at the moment i have a load of xmas hampers that need to goto wales next week, so as soon as thats done I`ll be straight on to 18th....:D

chasingsunshine -tubs of snowballs isn't that exciting really...........just gravy tubs covered in white paper or snowman pattern and filled with any kind of white sweet..........and I picked a couple of childs face mitts in the charity shop that fit nice and snug over the tub...........makes it look a better pressie than it really is :rotfl:

susan - thanks. So far for the twins I can only think of doing a small scrapbook for each of them with photos from when they were born until now (not easy as they lived with their mum since they were five so apart from the odd school photo I haven't a lot)-CD of songs from the year they were born-one of those 'certificates' listing events of the year, music and so on.
Been trawling the internet for 18th birthday ideas but some are so expensive and others a bit naff.
I've got some jewellery I can pass on to grandaughter that was mums but grandson isn't a ''bling'' type of boy so I'm stuck there.

Oh - and if you look at crazygirls thread further down the page for ideas she's done a 'party in a box' that might be an idea

  • hi ya all.

I've been following the site from when it started and only now feel i can join in .

I've made quite a few bits already - place mats, table runners, pickled eggs, baking set for my nephew, cake decorating sets, for both of my sisters. sweet jars for the kids at christmas.

I've also made spice mixes, tomato ketchup for my husband who is addicted to the stuff ! lol !

Yesterday my mum and I went fruit picking , foraging. I managed to get 7lbs of blackberries, 4lbs of golden plums and 2 whole carrier bags of apples, the pears aren't ripe yet but when they are we'll be back !
Today needless to say i've been freezing the lot as i've no jars, when i find a recipe to make jam ! help! I'm gonna take a peek in preserves .

i'm really new and this is my first posting so i'm bound to make a mistake.

Hope you don't mind me joining, you're an inspiration xx :o
  • I hope you got the e mail for the tomato ketchup lizalloareds.

sure someone can give you better answer than me, but made a candy bouquet for my bil birthday- he loves choc and has hayfever so seemed perfect :-) I simply bought wooden kebab sticks (about 50p for pack) and a bag of treatsize choc bars. threaded one bar onto each stick (stuck some on with tape) I then wrapped with celophane left from a bunch of flowers I had been given. He got lots of positive comments as we walked around town. You can make them more fancy though :-) lots of pics online if you google them :-) hope that helps a bit x
